Electric pole knocked down after two-car crash on Route 24

August 14, 2014

A two-car crash at the intersection of Route 24 and Robinsville Road Aug. 14 knocked over an electric pole and slowed traffic for a couple of hours.

The accident happened at 8:22 a.m. when Alan J. Rosenberger, 18, of Millsboro was driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer eastbound on Route 24, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The light at the intersection had turned yellow and Rosenberger started turning left onto Robinsville Road when he struck a 2006 Land Rover going westbound on Route 24, Fournier said.

The Land Rover, driven by Dale Thomas Young Jr., 28, of Edgewood, Md., continued through the intersection and struck an electric pole, shearing it in half, Fournier said.

Young, a 35-year-old woman passenger and three children under the age of 2 were in the car during the crash; Young and the woman were taken to Beebe Healthcare where they were treated and released for nonlife-threatening injuries, Fournier said. The children were uninjured.

Rosenberger was not injured; he was cited for failure to yield the right of way, Fournier said.

Traffic was slowed in the area for about two hours while the pole was replaced, Fournier said.
