Mary Winafred Bauerle, retired nurse

Mary Winafred Lavelle Baeurle, 79, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, surrounded by her family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Nora Lavelle, as well as her brother Edward Lavelle Jr. and his wife Mary.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years Eugene Baeurle; her three children: Michael Baeurle, James Baeurle and Annmarie Baeurle Borcky; their spouses: Rebecca Baeurle, Courtney Baeurle and Richard Borcky; and eight grandchildren: Kathryn Baeurle, Lucy Baeurle, Benjamin Borcky, Alexander Baeurle, Brianne Borcky, Brett Borcky, Lily Baeurle and Grace Baeurle. She is also survived by her brother James Lavelle his wife Linda; and eight nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Scranton, Pa., where she met her husband Gene in the third grade. She was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and spent her career helping people as a registered nurse, first in hospitals and then in schools. Mary and Gene moved to Wilmington in 1974 where Mary worked as a school nurse in the Chichester School District for years.

Mary and Gene retired to their beloved Dewey Beach in 1999. Mary had many interests including her Roman Catholic faith, reading, walking, Notre Dame football, the beach and entertaining, but above all, her greatest love was family. Her devotion as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother was unparalleled.

Mary’s strength of character was an inspiration to all. She was honest, kind, generous, loving and dignified, as well as strong and courageous throughout her 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. She will be forever cherished by all who knew her.

The Baeurle family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Lorelton, Kentmere Nursing Center and Delaware Hospice.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, Aug. 18, at St. Mary Magdalen Church on Sharpley Road and Route 202 in Wilmington. The family will accept guests at 10 a.m followed by Mass at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the National Parkinson Foundation at PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018. Arrangements by Mealey Funeral Homes.
