Robert 'Bob' Burns, Westinghouse retiree

August 16, 2014

Robert "Bob" Burns, 78, was ushered into Heaven and presented to the Living God Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014. Bob passed away surrounded by his family after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Bob was born in Oakland, Pa., July 17, 1936, to Richard T. Burns and Marie Brown Burns. He had one brother, his best friend, Richard T. Burns Jr. (Dick) He is rejoicing in Heaven with them now.

Bob was a passionate person who loved his family dearly. He adored his wife Marlyn of 55 years who with dedication, love, and tenderness took care of his every need. He cared deeply for his two children. His son, friend, and biggest fan Tim and wife Sandy gave him four grandchildren Kami Morris and husband John, Kari, Shane and Matt and one great-granddaughter Tori Morris. His daughter “his joy” Maureen and husband Steve gave him three grandchildren Kate Ruby, Mike and wife Vickie and Sean and two great-granddaughters Hayley and Makayla Ruby and one little Doyle on the way.

Bob never missed an event with his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Whether it was baseball games, plays, graduations, parties, or grandparents day at school…if he couldn’t be there, he wrote a note or called.

Bob left Pennsylvania and moved to California, back to Pennsylvania, and then to Maryland. He and Marlyn lived on Kent Island for 12 wonderful years.

Bob had a career with Westinghouse spanning 38 years. He retired in 1994 and he and his lovely wife retired to Delaware where they loved to go to the Sun Fest, plant a garden, can relish and tomatoes, root for the Steelers, Pirates and Notre Dame, and entertain their family. He will be missed by so many!

We would like to thank everyone at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, that assisted with our dad/husband. God Bless you all!

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be at Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church in Stevensville, Md. Saturday, Aug. 23, 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is kindly asking that donations be made to the Tunnel Cancer Center In Memory of Robert Burns, 18947 John Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Please memo Special Needs Fund.
