Barbara Anne Young, enjoyed traveling

August 17, 2014

Barbara Anne Young, 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Atlantic Shores in Millsboro. Mrs. Young, born in Charleston, W.Va.,  May 17, 1928, as Barbara Anne Copenhaver, grew up in a single parent home during the Great Depression, which helped develop in her a genuine and heartfelt appreciation and love for her extended family.

She married Benny Young, supported his banking career, and together they moved to Seaford to begin a new life together in Delaware. Barbara raised three sons, and her family became her real passion in life. Like a true servant, she was happiest in finding ways to love and support others; she was a happy, fun and truly a one-of-a kind mom and mom-mom.

Barbara helped build and operate the Ocean Breeze Mobile Home Park in Ocean City, Md. She enjoyed traveling with Ben on many trips, including the Holy Land, England, Ireland, crossing the Trans-Canadian Railway and cruising on the QE2. After retiring to Jupiter, Fla. in 1992, she became an active member of Jupiter-Tequesta United Methodist Church. A devoted wife, mom and mom-mom, she will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Benny Paul Young. Three sons, Timothy P. Young and his wife Karen of Ocean View, C. Michael and his wife Joanne, also of Ocean View, and David B. Young and his wife Tammy of Newark survive her, as do grandchildren Amber Porter (John), Brandy, Timothy J., Jessica, Brad Quillen, Eva, Donald and Joe, and great-grandchildren Carson, Carter and Kylie.

Services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Barbara’s name be made to VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive 302, Newark , DE 19713, or Mariners Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services.
