A 70-year-old Selbyville man died Aug. 20 and a 6-year-old boy was seriously injured after a car crash in Frankford.
Preston A. Hudson was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram van at 11:42 a.m. westbound on Zion Church Road approaching Deer Run Road when he ran off the roadway while negotiating a curve, said Sgt. Paul Shavack of the Delaware State Police.
The van left the south side of the roadway and crashed into a tree, he said.
Hudson was not properly restrained; he suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was flown by helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 3:32 p.m., Shavack said.
The 6-year-old boy was Hudson's grandson; he was secured in a child seat and taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was admitted with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, Shavack said.
Two dogs traveling in the van also died at the scene of the crash, and they were turned over to the SPCA, Shavack said.
Shavack said police are determining whether an acute medical condition experienced by Hudson may have contributed to the crash.
