A taxicab driver faces a rape charge after police say he picked up a woman Aug. 15 in Dewey Beach and sexually assaulted her.
Khalid Chablaoui, 30, of New Castle, picked up the 22-year-old woman after she left The Lighthouse bar and restaurant in Dewey Beach and flagged down his I-Taxi cab, said Sgt. Paul Shavack of the Delaware State Police.
The woman told police that she had had several drinks before she flagged down the taxi and got into the front seat of the taxi cab. The woman then vomited on herself and again outside the vehicle after Chablaoui pulled over, according to court records.
Chablaoui gave her a large trash bag to put her soiled skirt in, and she wrapped the bag around herself before returning to the car, records state. The woman fell asleep and awoke with Chablaoui's assaulting her; the woman told police she told him to stop and take her home,” records state.
When the cab arrived at the woman's home at 10:15 p.m., she went inside and told her mother to pay the driver; the mother paid Chablaoui $90 cash, and he gave her a signed receipt, records state.
Chablaoui turned himself in to police Aug. 21; he was charged with fourth-degree rape and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $20,000 secured bond.
