James 'Jimmy' Johnson, Baltimore Aircoil employee

August 22, 2014

James Calvert “Jimmy” Johnson was born June 24, 1957, to Vivian Johnson. He departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Milford Memorial Hospital at the age of 57.

Jimmy attended Sussex Central High School and graduated with the class of 1975. After graduating, Jimmy joined the Delaware National Guard in Dagsboro where he served for 12 years. Jimmy was employed by Thor-good Concrete, James Julian Construction Company and Townsends Inc. He spent the last 17 years at Baltimore Aircoil in Milford as their shipping forklift driver. He operated the lift known as “Big Red,” which was also his nickname used by many close friends. He loved what he did and loved his Baltimore Aircoil family.

Jimmy a.k.a “Crab Man” was an avid hunter, a diehard Redskins fan, a serious cook on the BBQ grill and he enjoyed spending time with the fellows from “down the way.” He was a Harley-Davidson rider, chroming everything he could. Top Shelf, as he was affectionately known and called by friends and family, was always the one with the master plan. There wasn’t anything that he didn’t know. If there was an argument to be won, he was going to win with his wealth of knowledge. He was a longtime professional at throwing horseshoes with his sidekick Simon.

He was very lovable, kind-hearted and a family man. Jimmy loved getting together for family gatherings and truly loved his girls. He instilled a strong work ethic in his daughters, always bragging about how many hours he worked.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald “Jerry” Moore. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Vivian Johnson of Millsboro; two children, Markishia Wise of Millsboro and Lakeia Broughton of Dover; stepdaughter Tammy Hankins of Fife, Wash.; one brother Marvin (Rocinda) of Millsboro; one sister Darlene (Rick) Showell of Millsboro; two half sisters Susan Mumford of Millsboro and Geraldine D'Allesandro of Magnolia; one grandson Tyler Hankins of Fife; and one granddaughter, Tra’Yonna Bowden-Dorsey of Millsboro. In addition, his loving sweetheart and companion, Vanessa Ingram of Millsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at St. John Second Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro.
