Benefit dinner set Nov. 7 for Veterans Trust Fund

August 31, 2014

A benefit dinner for the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund is on the books for Friday, Nov. 7, at Dover’s Modern Maturity Center.

The 6 to 9 p.m. black tie optional fundraiser will include a plated dinner, musical entertainment and a distinguished keynote speaker.

The event is hosted by the Friends of Delaware Veterans Inc., the volunteer organization that supports the trust fund. The board operates under the auspices of the Commission of Veterans Affairs and is made up of community leaders from across the state.

“Our board’s timing of this dinner, several days away from Veterans Day, is intentional,” said Dave Skocik, Friends president. “It’s an appropriate time to reach out to those who have served us so well and over so many campaigns.”

The Veterans Trust Fund, signed into law by Gov. Jack Markell in September 2013, provides assistance to honorably discharged veterans living in Delaware in verified financial emergencies.

Because the trust fund is operated by volunteers who meet in existing facilities, 100 percent of contributions go to provide a hand up to veterans, and contributions are tax deductible.

Dinner tickets are $100 and may be ordered by mailing a check to Commission of Veterans Affairs, 802 Silver Lake Blvd., Suite 100, Dover, DE 19904, with “dinner” in the memo area.

Tickets will be held at the will-call desk at the event or can be ordered through Eventbrite at for a small additional charge. Cutoff date for tickets is Nov. 1. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Event sponsorship opportunities, including the Patriot Trophy and Patriot Plaque are also listed at or call 302-739-2792.
