Jerry Edward Peregoy, had illustrious career

Jerry Edward Peregoy, 78, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Chester and Margaret (Beach) Peregoy.

Mr. Peregoy attended Westminster High School in Westminster, Md., where he graduated in 1953. After graduation he worked for Black & Decker Portable Electric Tool Company in Hampstead, Md. until he entered the Air Force in February 1957. He was a member of the 40th OMS, assistant crew chief on B47 aircraft.

Upon his honorable discharge in April 1963, he and his family returned to Westminster. He was employed by Bendix Field Engineering Corporation in Owings Mills, Md. as special material manager for the Manned Space Flight program. Following his employment with BFEC he was employed by NASA in Greenbelt, Md. as technical support for the Apollo 8 program. Mr. Peregoy would then round out his working career as an employee of The U.S. Treasury, U.S. Customs until his retirement in June, 1994.

Mr. Peregoy was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach. One of his passions in life was volunteering; he volunteered for 17 years with the New Life Thrift Shop in Lewes. Over the years he and his wife, Lois, enjoyed traveling around the country.

Mr. Peregoy was a past president of the Silver Run Union Mills Lions Club and also held a membership with the Westminster Elks Lodge 2277.

He is survived by his wife, Lois (Leppo) Peregoy; his son, Timothy Peregoy of Alderson, W.Va.; his daughter, Melissa Staley of Lewes; one brother, Maurice Peregoy; and two nephews, Stephen Peregoy and Mark Peregoy all of Westminster.

A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may visit at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Friends may also visit with the family Friday evening, Sept. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Building Fund, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971, or Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 DuPont Blvd., Millsboro, DE 19966.
