Hospice medical director to speak at HPNA meeting Sept. 8 at Christiana Hospital

The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association will hold a meeting starting at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 8, at Christiana Hospital, Room 1100, featuring Andrew L. Himelstein, MD, medical director of Delaware Hospice.

Himelstein will present “Palliative Care Across the Curriculum,” especially for nurses and other healthcare professionals who work with patients and families facing serious illness.

Himelstein is certified in hematology, oncology, and hospice and palliative medicine, and has conducted research and published numerous articles in these areas.  Recognized as a Top Doctor by U.S. News, Himelstein received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his degree in medicine from Washington University School of Medicine.

There will be 1.5 contact hours for nurses. Nurses must attend the entire presentation and complete an evaluation in order to receive a certificate for contact hours. Registration begins at 6 p.m., and the dinner meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

The fee for dinner and contact hours is $5 for members of both national and local HPNA, $10 for nonmembers and allied health professionals, and $5 for students.
