A 33-year-old Georgetown man faces charges in connection with two August incidents when police say he assaulted and robbed a woman he was living with.

John Mitchum was extradited from Pennsylvania; police say he went Aug. 16 and 17 to a Georgetown apartment in the 100 block of North Bedford Street that he shared with a 53-year-old woman, said Lt. Lawrence Grose of the Georgetown Police Department.

Aug. 16, Grose said, Mitchum went to the apartment at 8:54 p.m. and argued with the woman. He threw her to the ground and choked her before fleeing, Grose said.

Mitchum returned Aug. 17 at 10 a.m., when he again assaulted the woman and took some of her money and personal checks before fleeing, Grose said.

Police charged Mitchum Sept. 2 with robbery, home invasion and strangulation. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $55,000 secured bond.
