Keith Edward Lum, quiet, compassionate person

September 2, 2014

Keith Edward Lum. 54, of Millsboro, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, with his mother at his bedside.

Keith was born March 17, 1960, in Wilmington. He lived in Middletown where he attended Broadmeadow and Middletown schools until 1977 when the family moved to Sussex County. He graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1978. He took courses via the internet for electrical maintenance and obtained a certificate of achievement.

For several years he was employed at the White Horse Village Home in Newtown, Pa. After moving to Chincoteague, Va., he worked at the then, Mariner’s Motel. His favorite job was working with Bud at the Surfside Golf Course in Chincoteague.

Keith was a very loving, quiet, compassionate person, ready to help anyone in their time of need. He was known as the guy who “would be willing to give the shirt off his back when needed.”

Keith’s favorite pastimes were camping, fishing, and bicycling. He especially enjoyed assisting the Chincoteague Fire Company with their fireworks display at their carnivals.

Keith now joins his father, Melvin “Mel,” who passed away in January 2013, and brother Randy who passed April 24, 2003. He is survived by his mother, Doris Pleasanton Lum of Millsboro; a son, Stephen of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Jessica; and granddaughter Haley in Texas; and a brother Kevin of Harbeson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road in Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Pastor Frank Cario will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the SPCA Sussex Chapter, 22918 DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947, or a charity of your choice.
