September 3, 2014

An 83-year-old woman died Sept. 2 after an accident near Georgetown.

Charles J. Herrmann, 80, of Millsboro was driving a 2014 Kia Sedona at 11:04 a.m. eastbound on Governor Stockley Road approaching East Piney Grove Road, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

At the same time, Fournier said, Theodore C. McNamara, 42, of Lincoln was driving a 2003 Chevy Silverado westbound on Governor Stockley Road approaching the same intersection. Hermann turned into the path of the Silverado which struck the right corner of Hermann's car, Fournier said.

The two vehicles came to a stop off the northwest corner of the intersection. Hermann and his passenger, Virginia L. Staut, 83, of Millsboro were properly restrained and transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Staut was pronounced dead at the hospital; Hermann was treated and released for his injuries.

McNamara was properly restrained and uninjured.

Fournier said alcohol and speed are not considered factors; the roadway was closed for two hours.
