Voters can meet legislators at League Day March 25

Voters will have the opportunity to learn about important issues facing Delawareans and meet with the legislators who will tackle them Wednesday, March 25 during the annual League Day in Dover.

The day is sponsored by the League of Women Voters Delaware, with co-sponsors ACLU, Delaware ADA, Delaware Coalition for Open Government, Delaware Commission for Women and Inland Bays Association. The program begins at 9 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, at the corner of East State and Water streets, Dover.

Voting, campaign finance, housing, justice, and the Coastal Zone are five key issues in Delaware’s 148th General Assembly that will be addressed by experts in each field. Speakers include Elaine Manlove, Delaware commissioner of elections; John Flaherty, president of Delaware Coalition for Open Government; Susan Starrett, senior program manager, Corporation for Supportive Housing, the Source for Housing Solutions; Joanna Champney, chief of planning, Delaware Department of Correction; and Richard Fleming, Delaware Nature Society.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
