St. Jude The Apostle Parish Book Club to meet March 9

St. Jude The Apostle Parish Book Club will meet from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, in the Religious Education Center. The book of the month will be "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption" by Laura Hillenbrand. The book tells the story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete, airman and WWII survivor, and is an unforgettable testament to the resilience of the human mind, body and spirit. The library has two copies of the book for lending on a first-come, first-served basis. The book is also available on Amazon.com.

The Parish Book Club is sponsored by St. Jude’s Adult Faith Formation Committee and the Parish Library Committee. St. Jude The Apostle Church is at 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes. Christ's Church sets Men's Day events March 10, 20

Christ's Church in Harbeson has set two Men's Day events. The Men's Day Revival is set for 7:30 p.m, Thursday, March 10. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Fred Hopkins from Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes. The Annual Men's Day dinner and service will take place Sunday, March 20. Center for Community Justice sets mediation training March 11-14

People's Place Center for Community Justice in Milford will hold four days of basic mediation training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, March 11, through Monday, March 14. The course lays the groundwork for anyone interested in becoming a mediator or enhancing their conflict resolution skills. During the training, attendees will learn what mediation is and how it compares with other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Attendees will learn core skills to be effective mediators and what the role of the mediator is. Attendees will learn mediation's foundational values and what makes a successful mediation. Through group discussion, hands-on exercises, lecture,and role playing, participants will have the opportunity to engage with these and other critical issues. Participants who complete the training will gain valuable mediation skills that can be immediately applied in personal and professional settings. Children's clothing exchange set at East Gate Church March 12

Lydia’s Closet children’s clothing exchange for sizes newborn to 14-16 is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at East Gate Church. The church is at Long Neck Road and Church Lane (2.5 miles south of Route 24 toward Massey’s Landing), across from Rehoboth Shores and next to the Tunnell maintenance facility. Epworth UMC to repeat benefit concert March 12

Epworth United Methodist Church announces an encore performance of its concert, The Grass is Always Greener, set for 7 p.m., Saturday, March 12.

The concert will feature vocalists Liane Hansen and Carolyn Robinson, along with Doug Yetter appearing as collaborative artist.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Epworth’s Keep Our Children Warm fund. The fund was established to cover replacement and maintenance expenses in the heating units of the church’s educational wing.

Knights of Columbus set Irish dinner in Rehoboth March 12

The Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council’s Irish dinner in honor of St. Patrick's Day will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12, in St. Edmond’s Church Hall, at King Charles Avenue and Hickman Street in Rehoboth. Last seating is at 7 p.m. Menu includes corned beef and Irish bangers (sausage), fresh cabbage, potatoes, carrots and salad accompanied by Irish soda bread and dessert. Irish coffee, beer, wine, bottled water and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Live entertainment will be by Kevin O’Brennan. Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for youth 10 and under; children under age 5 accompanied by an adult are free. Unity of Rehoboth sets money class March 12, service March 13

Carol Borsello will talk about the super power of prayer at the Unity service at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 13. Borsello is a published author of poetry and prose. She delivers a message filled with wisdom and humor. As part of the service, the congregation will welcome new prayer chaplains who recently returned from training in Virginia. The chaplains will add a new dimension to the support and service. Unity of Rehoboth Beach is a growing community of folks who believe in the power of prayer and the teachings of Jesus and many of the masters, and that people are responsible for their lives.  Unity meets at the Olive Branch building on Route 1 just north of Lewes. Youth Sunday set at Bethel UMC March 13

Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes invites the community to Youth Sunday at 11 a.m., Sunday, March 13. Bethel’s youth will serve as musicians and worship leaders and offer videos they have prepared. Buck Shockley, a senior at Delmarva Christian High School, will bring the message. All are welcome.

UUSD to remember Wilmington minister Robert Doss March 13

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will meet at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 13. The memorial service for the Rev. Dr. Robert Mabry Doss, a longtime Wilmington minister and first UU minister/mentor to UUSD Lewes's the Rev. Paula Maiorano, was last month. In this service, Maiorano will share Bob Doss’s impact on her own life and the continuity of one ministry to another. The Old Testament lesson is Exodus 15: 20-21. The New Testament lesson is Mark 12: 42-44. Katrina Fisher-Tolliver of Denton, Md., will be the guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. The fellowship meal is set for 1 p.m. The Rev. Community Lutheran Church to install new pastor March 13

The congregation of disciples at Community Lutheran Church has announced that the Rev. Mark D. Molter will be the new full-time pastor. A recent graduate of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C., Molter and his wife Caitlin are in the process of relocating to Sussex County. St. Jude sets Mercy Monday program March 14

St. Jude The Apostle Church is celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy by sponsoring Mercy Monday  at 7 p.m., Monday, March 14,  in the Religious Education Center. This program explores the concept of mercy from the perspective of other faith traditions. John Gorham from Smyrna will be speaking on the concept of mercy in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). Presentation on race in America set at St. Peter’s in Lewes March 15

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes will retelecast in the parish hall an address on race in America by Anna Deavere Smith at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 15. Her presentation is titled Race in America: Accepting Difference, Standing Shoulder to Shoulder. Smith is an American actress and playwright who is currently artist-in-residence at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. Bethel AME in Milton sets soul food dinner sale March 18, orders due March 16

Bethel AME Church in Milton is having a soul food dinner sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, March 18. For a donation of $10, dinners include choice of chicken or fish and five sides. Side choices are potato salad, green beans, greens, macaroni and cheese and candied yams. Order by Wednesday, March 16. St. Jude The Apostle Parish Book Club to meet April 13

St. Jude The Apostle Parish Book Club continues its series of book discussions for the Jubilee Year of Mercy with its April selection, "Sinner: The Catholic Guy's Funny, Feeble Attempts to Be a Faithful Catholic,"  by Lino Rulli. The book club will meet from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, in the Religious Education Center. Deacon Scott Landis will lead the discussion of sin and reconciliation, and other matters of reverent faith that Rulli tackles with honesty and humor. Rulli, a first-time author, is also the host of “The Catholic Guy,” a three-hour show heard daily on Sirius XM Radio.
