Harbor Health to host arthritis education event
Cadia Healthcare will host an arthritis awareness event at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center Monday, May 19. The awareness event is free to anyone seeking additional information on how to get support and information on the disease. It is estimated that arthritis affects one in five Delawareans. It can cause pain, loss of movement, joint deterioration and possible inflammation.
Milford Senior Center to host women’s mobile health van May 16
Milford Senior Center will host the women’s mobile health van from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, May 16, at 111 Park Ave., Milford. Health and Trade Fair set May 16 in Milford
The Milford Senior Center, in conjunction with Older Americans Month, will host its fourth annual Wellness and Trade Fair from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 16, at the center, located at 111 Park Ave. in Milford. The fair will feature 38 vendors representing all phases of medical screening, including vision, blood pressure, hearing, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. New programs to address needs of those with cancer
The Wellness Community-Delaware is expanding its programming for people in Sussex County who are touched by cancer, as well as community members interested in the educational presentations. All programs offered by The Wellness Community are free of charge to those affected by cancer and their families. Kim Westcott, registered dietitian, will present Nutrition After Cancer at noon, Tuesday, May 13. The workshop will address the American Cancer Society guidelines for healthy eating to prevent cancer recurrence. A light lunch will be provided. RSVP by Friday, May 9. Kids Circle/Teen Talk for children ages 5 to 17 who have a parent or grandparent with cancer will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 17. Parents and caregivers will meet separately at the same time. Dr. Steven Berlin of Bayside Health will present Ask The Doctor: Should My Daughter Be Vaccinated Against HPV? at 6 p.m., Monday, May 19. He will give an overview about the human papilloma virus, with questions and answers to follow. The Wellness Community is located in the Medical Arts Building at the Route 24 Beebe Health Campus. Grief support group meets at Bayhealth
Bayhealth Medical Center’s grief support group meets at Milford Memorial Hospital for anyone who has lost a loved one. Meetings are the third Tuesday of every month from 10 to 11:30 a.m., in the Milford Memorial Hospital chapel. Anyone who has lost a loved one is invited to attend. Meditation offers health benefits to cancer patients
Clare Wilson, RN, MS, teaches the health benefits of meditation at 5 p.m., the second and fourth Thursday of each month, at The Wellness Community’s Sussex facility. Meditation can reduce stress, enhance breathing and help people affected by cancer focus and relax. All programs offered by The Wellness Community are free of charge.
