Joseph ‘Jody’ Hudson, Cape Region Realtor
Joseph R. “Jody” Hudson Jr., 59, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at his home. Jody was born March 16, 1949, in Milford, and he was the first of three children born to Joe and the late Faye Hudson.
He graduated from Lewes High School in 1967 and then worked on the family farm until enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his tour in the Coast Guard, Jody came back to Lewes where he received his real estate license in 1972. Since 1972, Jody has been involved in the real estate industry in various capacities including licensed Realtor, broker and community developer. Jody helped manage, sell and/or develop Cripple Creek, Eagle Crest Aerodrome, Lazy Lake, Overbrook Shores, Tanglewood, Cool Spring Farms, Covey Creek and Cave Colony.
Most recently Jody served as one of the most active members of the Positive Growth Alliance, and was elected president of the board of directors. Jody was very committed to his role as president and went above and beyond the call of duty to serve his board.
Outside of his professional life, Jody was a loquacious, supportive and loving father, colorful character, gifted photographer, philosopher, listener, storyteller, salesman, business consultant, adventurer, pragmatic naturalist, avid target shooter, weapons expert, problem solver, reader, writer, patriot, protector of the Constitution, expert on most topics, an Avatar, and friend to many people near and far, who was prepared for anything. His ever-present smile, entertaining stories, enthusiastic conversations, commentaries, monologues, valuable suggestions and numerous other unique contributions to the community will be missed. In faith, Jody was a minister of the Church of Scientology, and had recently been attending the Lewes Church of Christ.
Jody is survived by his three children, Joss Hudson and his wife Diana, Abraxas Hudson and Jazz Hudson; two grandchildren, Savana and Kira Hudson; his father Joe and wife Christine Hudson; sister Susie Hudson, brother Craig and his wife Liz Hudson; stepsister Janel Hudson; and two nephews, Christian and his wife Julie Hudson, and Jamin Hudson.
The Hudson family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the great outpouring of support that they have received from the community.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call at the funeral home 7-9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, and 1-2 p.m., Sunday. Interment will be private.

Services and Raging Bonfire Planned for Jody Hudson

The entire community is invited to a Raging Bonfire in honor of Jody Hudson starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at the Hudson Soccer Fields on Rt. 1 near Eagle Crest Airport. "My dad was not a normal character and he needs to go out with a bang," said his son and artist Abraxas. "The bonfire is open to everyone and in the true spirit of Jody, costumes are encouraged. Spread the word far and wide."

Jody Hudson, Coast Guard veteran, minister in the Church of Scientology, and local Realtor and property rights activist, died this week at the age of 59. Funeral services for Jody will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Parsell Funeral Home with visitation for friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16.

Earle B. Atkins Jr., postal service retiree
Earle B. “Butch” Atkins Jr., 68, of Millsboro, formerly of Bear, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Atkins was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Wilmington to the late Earle Sr. and Francis Wilson Atkins.
Mr. Atkins attended A.I. DuPont High School before going to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years; he retired in 1996 and moved to the Millsboro area. Earle enjoyed bowling, boating, fishing and golf. He also enjoyed being a “snowbird” and spending his winters in Florida. Earle was a member and past commodore of the Indian River Yacht Club, member of the Elks Lodge, B.P.O.E., and member of the 11th Ward Democratic Bowling League. He was the most friendly, easiest going, fun-loving person in the world.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy L. Atkins; a son, Earle Bennett Atkins III and his wife Karen; a daughter, Leslie Atkins; two stepdaughters, Kathy Griffith and her husband Dan, and Tonya Gravatt and husband Jerry; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may visit after noon. Pastor Duane Smith will officiate the service. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Charles Lee Disharoon, retired lineman
Charles Lee Disharoon, 84, of Ocean City, Md., died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
He was born in Hebron, Md., and grew up in Randallstown, Md. Charles served in the Army Air Corps 508 Fighter Group in World War II. He married Jean Cooke and had three children, Yvonne, Donald and Camie Disharoon, all from Sandy Spring, Md.
Charles had more than 30 years with Chesapeake Potomac/Verizon as a lineman, engineer and finally, as auditor-evaluator for three states and Washington, D.C.
He also did poultry feasibility studies for countries in the Mideast. He then worked for more than 30 years in real estate, primarily in Ocean City, building numerous buildings.
Prior to his retirement, he was broker/owner of Sea Gate Sales and Rentals.
His various community activities over the years included being head of the rescue squad at Sandy Spring Fire Department, a member of the Lions Club and American Legion, and he volunteered at schools his children attended.
Charles had sung bass with the Nautical Sounds Barbershop Chorus of Ocean View for 20 years and also sang in the Ebb Tide Quartet. He was named Barbershopper of the Year twice, including in 2007.
Charles is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jackie Beamer Disharoon; his stepmother, Dorotha Disharoon; his children; two sisters, Margaret Rosenberger, and Alice Johnston and her husband Charles; and a brother, Donald D. Disharoon and his wife Marcia. He is also survived by his cats, Krista and Sabrina.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at American Legion Post 166 on 24th Street and Philadelphia Avenue, Ocean City. Family and friends are invited to come and share their memories and stories about Charles.
Light refreshments will be served.

Albert Farlow Jr., Vietnam veteran
Albert “Owl Head” Farlow Jr., 66, of Millsboro, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. Mr. Farlow was born Aug. 5, 1942 in Baltimore, Md.
He was a vaccinator at the Townsend’s Hatchery, now known as Mountaire, for many years. Mr. Farlow was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Air Cavalry. He loved fishing, loved to keep house, cook dinner, joke around with his friends and relatives, and he loved to watch Westerns and war movies.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Davis of Florida; two grandchildren, caregivers and close friends, Sylvia and Jessie Payton of Millsboro; his adopted sister, Sylvia Stanley and her husband Thurman; four adopted brothers, Jerome Watson, James Watson, William Watson and Tommy Sample; four nieces; five nephews; four great-nieces; two great-nephews; and many friends.
Services were held at the Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Robert A. Hammond, avid gardener
Robert Armand Hammond, also known as “Bart” and “Bob,” 61, of Rehoboth Beach and Kennett Square, Pa., passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at his residence with his friends John, John and Dana by his side.
Robert was an avid gardener with a tremendous talent for landscape design. His career in sales included Gimbels Department Store, Strawbridge & Clothier and Baker Knapp & Tubbs. He retired from Baker Knapp & Tubbs in 2004 when he relocated to his favorite place, Rehoboth Beach.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Miller Hammond and his father, Robert Arrison Hammond; and his sister, Joy Hammond Breckheimer.
Bob is survived by his good friends John Glenstrup, John Black and the 11-year old Great Dane, Dana. He is also survived by the Alderfer family of Pennsylvania.
In keeping with Quaker tradition and at Bob’s request, services will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises Inc., Lewes.

James Hutton Lemly Jr., held FEMA post
James Hutton Lemly Jr., 59, passed away at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Wednesday, Nov. 5.
He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Oxford, Miss., the son of the late Dr. James Hutton Lemly Sr. and the late Onice Walker Lemly.
He received an undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1970 before serving in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973. After receiving a master’s in public accountancy from Georgia State University in 1975, Lemly relocated to Washington and began his career in the civilian federal service at the Department of Justice where he served in a number of accountant and systems accountant positions in the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Justice Management Division. In 1983, he met the requirements and received the certification as a certified public accountant.
In 1989, he joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and was a financial systems analyst in the Office of the Comptroller. Lemly served as deputy chief financial officer in 1993 and then was chief of theFinancial Systems Support Branch. He retired in April 2006 as the senior systems accountant and the principal advisor on FEMA financial management system matters. Upon retirement, he moved to Rehoboth Beach.
Lemly is survived by his partner of 29 years, Dr. Thomas E. Brown; his sister, Mary Lemly Danewitz and her husband Larry Eugene of Herndon, Va.; his niece, Susan Marie Danewitz and her husband John A. G. Yoder and their daughter Enola E. Yoder-Danewitz of Alexandria, Va.; and his niece, Judith Anne Danewitz of Herndon, Va. He is also survived by 14 cousins and a host of friends in the Washington, D.C. and eastern Sussex County areas.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes with the Rev. Tom Starnes officiating. Visitation will precede the services starting at 10:30 a.m.

Henry Morgereth, NSA retiree
Henry “Joe” Morgereth, 75, of Georgetown, Pasadena, Md., and Baltimore City, Md., passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at his residence. He was born July 24, 1933, in Baltimore, Md. to the late Henry J. and Amelia Morgereth.
Mr. Morgereth was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era, the Baltimore City Police Force, Maryland State Police and 30 years with the National Security Agency (NSA). He was a member of Lewes Moose Lodge 646, American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard and the Maryland State Police Alumni Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Derek Grant Morgereth, Feb. 1, 1969 to Aug. 21, 1987.
Mr. Morgereth is survived by his wife, Joyce Morgereth; daughters, Gwen Gilliard and her husband Kevin of Pasadena, Md., and Jill Knauer and her husband Bryan of Gambrills, Md.; stepdaughter, Dawn Powers and her husband Tim of Pasadena; stepson, Mike Hood of Dumfries, Va.; four grandchildren, Caroline Gilliard, Kyle Gilliard, Grace Knauer and Ellie Knauer; and three step-grandchildren, Morgan Hood, Taylor Hood and Ryan Hood; as well as many friends in Delaware, Maryland and Florida.
A chapel service was held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Margaret Carney Rentz, Rehoboth visitor
Margaret M. Carney Rentz, 92, of Newark, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the home of her daughter, Margaret C. Harrison, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late John A. and Margaret Henry McGowan.
Her sharp wit brought laughter to anyone she came in contact with. Those who had the opportunity to know her, her jokes and sense of humor always received a laugh. She was the niece of Bill McGowan, American League umpire, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 1992. She enjoyed visits to her summer residence in Rehoboth Beach where she could be with her son Jack and daughter-in-law, Kathy.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Edward Carney of 48 years in 1986 and Harry Rentz of 13 years in 1999, and her son-in-law, Thomas Harrison.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Harrison; her son, John M. Carney Sr. and wife Kathleen of Rehoboth Beach; her stepdaughter, Margaret Fox of Claymont; five grandchildren, Thomas R. Harrison Jr. and his wife Annette of Phillipsburg, N.J., Edward J. Harrison and wife Tina of Wilmington, John McGowan Harrison and wife Julie of Newark, John M. Carney Jr. and wife Terri of Tucson, Ariz., and Nancy A. Carney Shugar of Marlton, N.J.; and six great-grandchildren, Thomas R. Harrison III, Carly A. Harrison, Heather Harrison, Lindsey Harrison, Alex Carney and Carissa Carney.
She was thankful for her extended family, Pat Yeager, Matt and Jessica Donnelly, and their children Hunter and Lindsey.
The family sincerely appreciates and thanks Vitas Hospice for their excellent support, care and compassion over the past few weeks.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with interment at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Ronald R. Robinson, senior engineer
Ronald Richard Robinson, 64, of Millsboro, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at home.
He retired to Delaware after living in Mt. Airy, Md., for more than 30 years. He was the loving husband of Carol Ann Scee, his wife of 43 years.
Born Dec. 21, 1943, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Gordon K. Robinson and Gertrude V. Dix.
He retired in 2001 after working 33 years as a senior engineer for Montgomery County in Maryland. He served two tours in Antarctica with the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro and BPOE Elks, Cape Henlopen Lodge. He was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Ronald Kaspersky.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children, Lauren (Rick) Boerstler, Robyn (David) Kaspersky, Kevin (Beth) Robinson, and Allison (Shawn) Moran and 13 grandchildren, Channing, Derick, and Jordan Boerstler, Justin, Samuel, Joseph, Jonathan and Rebekah Kaspersky, Callie, Trevor and Tanner Robinson, and Ashley and Taylor Moran.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, Md. Interment was at Wyoming Cemetery in Wyoming, Pa., at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Oak Orchard Riverdale American Legion Post 28 at 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Oliver J. Morgan, Mountaire retiree
Oliver J. Morgan, 83, of Dagsboro, passed Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Morgan was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Ocean View to the late Frank and Bertie Banks Evans Morgan. He had been ill for a long time; now it was the time for him to go home to be with the Lord.
Mr. Morgan worked for Mountaire Farms in Millsboro until his retirement due to ill health. He was a member of the Dagsboro Church of God.
He is survived by two sons, John W. Morgan and James C. Morgan; two sisters, Janet Tingle of Georgetown and Mary Ann Moxey of Dagsboro; and two brothers, Russell E. Morgan of Dover and John W. Morgan of Dagsboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Morgan; a brother, Ernest Morgan; and three sisters, Emma Jane Robbins, Naomi Abey and Mable Hurley.
Services will be held at 10, Friday, Nov. 21, at the Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery, Iron Branch Road, Dagsboro. Pastor Kim Tephabock will officiate the service.
