Maurice A. Hartnett III, former justice
The Hon. Maurice A. Hartnett III, 82, of Dover passed away Monday, May 11, 2009, at Lifecare at Lofland Park in Seaford.
He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Dover. His father, Maurice A. Hartnett Jr., was a well-known citizen who was vice mayor of Dover and president of the local school board. The Hartnett family operated M.A. Hartnett Inc., the local lumberyard, for 110 years. His mother, Anne Louise Morris, was a descendant of the Ridgely family that settled in Dover before the American Revolution. In 1945, Justice Hartnett graduated from Dover High School and immediately entered the U. S. Army. He served at Fort Lee in Virginia and at West Point in New York until 1947. In 1951, Justice Hartnett received his bachelor of science degree in political science from the University of Delaware. He had planned to work in his father’s business after graduation; however, with his father’s encouragement, he changed plans and studied law. He first attended Georgetown Law School, but ultimately received his doctor of jurisprudence degree from George Washington University School of Law in 1954. In 1953, while in law school, he clerked in the Superior Court for The Hon. Charles L. Terry Jr. He also received a master’s degree in education from the University of Delaware in 1957. After completing his legal education, Justice Hartnett returned to Dover.
He was admitted to practice before the Delaware Supreme Court in 1955, the United States District Court of Delaware in 1956 and the United States Supreme Court in 1963. For over 21 years, Justice Hartnett practiced law on The Green in Dover. During these years, his general practice included all areas of the law, but he specialized in business and real estate law. His clients included Farmers Bank and several automobile dealerships. During this period he also served in many other capacities, including attorney for the House of Representatives (1959-60); executive director of the Legislative Reference Bureau (1961-69); Delaware Code reviser (1961-72); attorney for the Kent County Levy Court (1970-76); master in Family Court for Kent County (1959-60); Merit System Study commissioner (1966); chairman of the State Tax Appeals Board (1973-76); member and secretary of the Delaware Constitutional Revision Commission (1968-69); and member of the Delaware Long-Range Courts Committee (1975-94). He was also chairman of the Delaware Supreme Court Uniform Rules of Evidence Committee (1977) and secretary of the Uniform Commercial Code Study Committee (1964). Justice Hartnett was a member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws since 1961. He was secretary for two years and an executive committee member for four years. He served on numerous drafting committees and acted as chair of the committees that drafted the Uniform Exemptions Act, the Uniform Statutory and Rule Construction Act and the Uniform Trust Code.
Justice Hartnett joined the American Bar Association in 1955 and served on several of its committees including the Standing Committee on State Legislation; the Standing Committee on Federal Legislation; and the Judicial Selection and Evaluation Committee. He also served as a vice chairman of the Wills, Probate and Trusts Committee, Senior Lawyers Division. Justice Hartnett joined the Kent County Bar Association in 1955 and was president in 1974. He was a member of the American Law Institute.
He was a Rehoboth Beach commissioner (1972-76) and he was a founder of the Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association. He also served as a past commander at the local American Legion post. In 1976, he was appointed by Gov. Sherman Tribbett as a vice chancellor on the Court of Chancery of the state of Delaware. During his tenure, he heard many corporate cases that received national attention in the 1980s, including the Tyson Chicken and Shell Oil cases. In 1988, he was reappointed by Gov. Michael Castle to a second term. In 1994, Gov. Thomas Carper appointed him to be a justice of the Supreme Court of the state of Delaware. Justice Hartnett officially retired on June 30, 2000, but continued to hear cases by special appointment for several years afterwards. Justice Hartnett was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Church in Dover and served as a past parish council president and president of the steering committee for the building of the new church.
Justice Hartnett is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Anne Hartnett of Dover; a daughter, The Hon. Anne Hartnett Reigle, her husband Hans H. Reigle and their three children, Derek C. Reigle, Kristen A. Reigle and Blake V. Reigle.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover. Private burial will be Friday, May 15, in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Arrangements are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director Inc., Dover.

Carlton R. Allen, business owner
Carlton R. Allen, 52, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009. Carl was born in Rehoboth Beach Aug. 27, 1956, son of the late Beatrice Allen and Carlton Brown. Carl was the proud owner of Carl’s Cleaning Service, which he started in 1985. He had a charismatic and magnetic personality. He was a big man with a genuine, sincere and giving heart. He was a selfless man, always willing to help out others and give advice. He graduated in 1975 from Cape Henlopen High School. He also graduated from Cecil College with a degree in business. Carl was a member of the 1974 & 1975 Cape Henlopen state basketball champions. Carl holds a 1,000-point scoring title in basketball at Cecil College. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Hall; brother, Keith Allen; and aunts, Blanche Tankard and Edna Harmon. Carl will be lovingly remembered by his girlfriend of 16 years, Jessica Vezendy and their three dogs, China, Scarfo and Asia; sisters, Mary (Freddie) DeShields of Camden, N.J., Bernadette Allen, Linda (Billy) Ray, and Melinda Allen, all of Rehoboth Beach, and Sharon Allen of Milford; brothers, Oliver Allen of Dayton, Ohio, Johnny (Michelle) Allen of Wilmington, Steve Allen of Smyrna, and Blaine (Debbie) Allen of Oxford, Pa.; daughters, Morgan Johnson of Orlando, Fla., and Ronnie Joseph of Wilmington; uncle, Walter Harmon of Rehoboth Beach; goddaughters, Daria Webster of Newark, and Shelby Langan of Georgetown; godson, Emilio Escobales of Elkton, Md.; along with a host of many friends and family.
A viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 15, at John Wesley UM Church, 34420 Lewes-Georgetown Highway at Five Points, Lewes. Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Cape Henlopen Ninth Grade Academy, 820 Savannah Road, Lewes. Friends may call at the school two hours prior to the service. Jordyn K. Owens, local student
Jordyn Kathryn Owens, 18, died suddenly Saturday, May 9, 2009. She was born July 11, 1990, in Lewes, daughter of Terry Owens and Teresa Marchelle Scott Owens of Lewes.
Jordyn was proud to have just completed her first year at Delaware Technical & Community College. An avid lover of the beach and water, she could often be found there with her many friends that she adored and treasured. She also served as a lifeguard at many area locations. She enjoyed being around and working with young children and loved visiting the pets at the local SPCA, a very loving, giving and vibrant young person who embraced family and friends. She will be missed by the many who knew her and were touched by her life.
A Celebration of Jordyn’s Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Cape Henlopen High School gymnasium, Kings Highway, Lewes. The Rev. Harry Hughes will be officiating.
In addition to her parents, Jordyn is survived by her brother, Bradley; her uncles, Jerry Owens of Lewes, Kevin Scott and Leon Scott, both of Houston; and her aunt, Sherry Reed of Milton. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Craig Steven Wood, youth minister
Craig Steven Wood, 24, of Frankford passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He suffered from a very rare, seriously debilitating skin condition that required daily medical care. He had a lifetime of doctors’ visits, surgeries and hospital stays. He had recently moved back into his parents’ home near Clarksville after living on his own for several years in Lewes.
After being home schooled for the majority of his school career, Craig attended Delaware Tech and received multiple Microsoft certifications. He earned money making computer repairs and building websites, all while volunteering for the Christian youth organization Young Life. He attended New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth Beach, where he served in the youth ministry.
Craig was an avid public speaker, and he had the opportunity to travel to many different churches and events in the Mid-Atlantic region where he gave his testimony and exemplified his faith. He once gave a speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., when he was just 15 years old. He had devoted his life to serving God through his church, and stories of his faith-filled life impacted even those who never met him. His unwavering faith inspired everyone who came into contact with him, and he continues to affect people’s lives.
Craig never let his disabilities slow him down and loved road trips, skiing, riding ATVs, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Christine Wood; two brothers, Brandon Wood and his wife Holly of Millsboro, and Ryan Wood at home; sister, Erin Wood at home; two stepbrothers, Michael Wood of Georgia and Steven Wood and his wife Melony of Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Irwin and Jean Wood of Centreville, Md.; maternal grandparents, Robert J. and Patricia Benton of Clarksville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins..
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 14, at Eagle’s Nest Church, Milton. The burial service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 15, at St George’s Cemetery in Clarksville, with a fellowship gathering at the Wood residence afterward.

Ronald ‘Leon’ Wise, church member
Ronald “Leon” Wise, 62, of Millsboro, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Leon was a lifelong resident and attended the Dagsboro Church of God. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Godwin Wise; four sisters; and four brothers.
He is survived by his children, Ronald Leon Snead and companion Dorcia Patterson of Dover, Patrina L. Snead of Dover, Ylester Johnson and Duane Henry of Dover; three brothers, Terence Wise of Millsboro, Junior Lee Wise of Millsboro and Tommy Wise of New Jersey; two sisters, Betty Wise of Millsboro and the Rev. Eloise Scales (Maynard) of Ohio; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a special caring friend, Shirley Pettyjohn; and many friends, extended family, nieces, nephews and relatives.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at Dickerson Chapel AME Church, Route 113, Millsboro, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Johns 2nd Baptist Cemetery, Mt. Nancy T. Goe, enjoyed playing bridge
Nancy T. Goe, 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Randallstown, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, May 7, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Goe was born in Baltimore, Md., June 8, 1933, and married Robert Walter Goe June 16, 1951. Nancy was deeply devoted to her family and her dog Paddy. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1985 and second husband, Francis Hardesty Sr., in 2004. She is survived by her three children, Kathleen Rodgers and her husband Joseph of Millsboro, Judith Anne Rose of Millsboro and Amy C. Younts of Alexandria, Va.; a stepson, Jerald Hardesty and his wife Nina of Bryantown, Md.; a brother, M. Joseph Hersey and his wife Julie of Indiana; eight grandchildren, Kelly Fanizzo and her husband Michael Jr., Patrick Yasaitis, Anthony Rodgers, Robert Rose, Kelsey Younts, Brian Lester, Steven Hardesty and his wife Patricia and Jason Hardesty and his wife Melissa; eight great-grandchildren, Brian and Christopher Lester, and Steven, Chase, Joshua, Gabrielle, Aliyah and Jordan Hardesty.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where a short service will take place at 3 p.m. Interment will be held privately. Mary Frances Cooke, registered nurse
Mary Frances Roe Cooke, 85, died in the presence of her beloved family Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
She was born Feb. 22, 1924, to Pierson Montague Roe and Marguerite Milby Roe of Chapel District, Cordova, Md. When her father was named postmaster of Cordova they moved from the farm to town. She attended the Cordova schools and was a member of the basketball and field ball teams of the high school. She graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1941. She was a 1945 graduate of the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, passing her boards to be a registered nurse. On Oct. 11, 1944, she married the Rev. R. Jervis Cooke, then a chaplain with the U.S. Navy. After the war they settled into parish life at the Methodist Church in Trappe, Md. They also served other Methodist churches: Epworth, Centreville, Md.; St. John’s, Seaford; Trinity, Salisbury, Md.; and on the Wilmington District when her husband was superintendent; and the Newark United Methodist Church. When her husband held administrative positions in Dover she took an active role in the Wesley Church. During the time of his presidency of Wesley College she was a gracious hostess to the students, faculty, trustees and many others.
When the children were grown she had an active role of service on her own. She was vice president of the auxiliary of Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., and a director of Neighborhood House, Wilmington, where she chaired the finance committee. She served two terms as president of the Peninsula Conference United Methodist Women; dean of the Conference School of Christian Mission; and two terms as president of Church Women United of Delaware. She was a lay delegate to the Methodist General Conference of 1976 in Portland, Ore., and to the Jurisdictional Conferences of 1976 and 1980. She was a member of the World Methodist Conference in Hawaii. In 1993 the National Organization of Church Women United recognized her as the second Delaware woman to be designated A Valiant Woman.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Dr. Raymond Jervis Cooke; her children, Joanne Cooke and her husband Don Gowins of Galestown, Md., the Rev. Dr. Bruce Cooke and wife Gail of Selbyville, Linda Chantler of Milton, Gary Cooke and wife Elena of Milton, and Steve Cooke of Atlanta Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She has lived at the Methodist Manor House, Seaford, for 16 years and has been a patient with Alzheimer’s in the health center for more than six years.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar streets, at noon, Saturday, followed by a luncheon and visitation.
Instead of flowers, it is suggested that gifts be made to the Benevolence Fund of the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford, DE 19973.

John A. Hamstead, market owner
Owner of Elmer’s Market, John A. Hamstead, 69, of Georgetown, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. Mr. Hamstead was born March 24, 1940, in Milford, the son of the late Elmer and Mabel Moore Hamstead. John owned and operated Elmer’s Market along with his wife Dorothy and his family for the past 51 years; the markets are located on Route 16 in Greenwood and Route 18 in Bridgeville. The original market in Greenwood was established by his parents in 1954. John was a lover of life and nature. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Ellis and Glenn L.; and one sister, Deane Tvelia.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy M. Hamstead; five children, John Jr. of Greenwood, Michael A. of Greenwood, Reginald H. of Lincoln, Diane Bolyard of Duncannon, Pa., and Carol Hansen of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; extended family and many, many friends.
Memorial services for friends and family were held at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 16 West Market St., Greenwood. Burial will be private.

Kathleen M. Cybulsky, retired banker
Kathleen M. Cybulsky, 63, of Lewes, formerly of Hawthorne and Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
She was born Jan. 21, 1946, in Passaic, N.J., daughter of the late Michael and Olga Mikula Rozum.
Mrs. Cybulsky had worked for over 30 years in the banking industry. She relocated to the beach two years ago with her husband as she loved being near the ocean. She also enjoyed taking road trips throughout the United States to visit historic sights and to attend sporting events.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Dennis Cybulsky; and two brothers, Dennis Rozum of Richmond, Va., and Douglas Rozum of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

George Jenkins Jr., Millsboro baby
George “Baby Roo” Jenkins Jr. born Aug. 24, 2008, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 9, 2009.
He is survived by his parents, George and Pam Jenkins; paternal grandparents, Robert and Diana Jenkins; and maternal grandparents, Brad and Jane Parker; uncle Bobby and aunt Sarah Jenkins; cousins Riley Jenkins and Drake Foxwell; great-grandparents Albert and Edna Steele, Gerry Lingo, and Donald and Evelyn Parker.
While his parents worked, he spent his days with Barbara and Pete Deklerow, who provided far more than just childcare for “Baby Roo” and his family.
Both of Baby George’s parents come from very large, very close families, and his time here was spent being loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. whose relationships extend beyond family titles. He was loved, cherished, and will forever more be missed by the Jenkins, Parker, Steele and Lingo families.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 13, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro. Pastor Robert Hudson officiated. Interment will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown.

Clara H. Hartnett, devoted housewife
Clara H. Hartnett, 93, of Dover, born in Wilmington in 1915, passed from this life to the next Tuesday, April 28, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong husband, John L. Hartnett Sr. (Pat) who passed away in 2002; and a son, Kenneth L. Hartnett who resided in Hawaii with his wife Joann and passed away in 2003. She was a devoted mother and housewife all of her life, enjoyed going to church, and loved all animals. In her later years, she worked part time tending to the elderly and handicapped.
She is survived by a son, John L. Hartnett Jr. (Jack) who lives in Dover with his wife Toshi; a daughter, Patricia A. Hartnett who resides in Dover and provided loving care to her mother the last few years; and another son, Wayne J. Hartnett who resides in Rehoboth Beach with his wife Donna and their daughter Kelly Lynn.
In addition, she is survived by several grandchildren, Carol Lynn, Kelly Lynn, Kenneth Jr., and Michael; and a great-granddaughter, Brittany.
Services will be private for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lighthouse Church, Railroad Avenue, Camden-Wyoming. Arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.

Daniel Tierney Horning Jr., licensed Realtor
Daniel Tierney Horning Jr., 49, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, after a long illness.
Dan grew up in Wilmington. He graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in Wilmington and received an associate’s degree in business from Wesley College in Dover. After several jobs in sales and construction, he became a licensed Realtor.
Dan loved the outdoors and was an accomplished fisherman and hunter. But his primary interest and greatest joy was his association with Alcoholics Anonymous and the many loyal friends that he made there. In fall 2008 he was elected vice president of Dry Dock Inc., an organization affiliated with A.A., but was unable to serve in that post due to his illness.
One of the final thoughts Dan shared with his parents was that the last five years were the happiest of his life. He was proud of his own achievements and of those whom he helped.
Dan leaves his parents, Daniel T. Horning Sr. and Mary Ann B. Horning of Hockessin; two sisters, Sarah H. Ziegler of Frederick, Md., and her children, Ann and Christine, and Ann H. Tralka, her husband Greg and their children, Hannah and Matthew from West Friendship, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Cool Spring Presbyterian Church, Joseph’s Road, west of Five Points off Route 9 in Lewes. This small, old church was attended by ancestors of Dan’s mother’s family in the 1700s. Burial will be private.
Dan will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Thomas Lee Hood, World War II veteran
Thomas Lee Hood, 78, of Coatesville, Pa., formerly of Milton, passed away in his home Monday, April 27, 2009. Thomas was the son of the late Ossie Perry Waples; he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Grafton and Pearl Hood of Milton. Thomas was the husband of Mary Flamer Hood of Coatesville, Pa.
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Thomas retired from Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville. Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacie; his son, Steve Hood; two brothers, Rudell Ward and Bradford Perry; and two sisters, Emma Eley and Pearl Wright.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Hood; two daughters, Sharon and Alfred Green, and Sheila Hood, all of Coatesville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald and Evelyn Waples of Dagsboro; two sisters, Ellen Harmon of Dover, and Pearl H. Cannon of Milton; and a sister-in-law, Kitty Perry of Dover.
Services were held Friday, May 1, in Coatesville. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Lewes.

Paul E. Schaffer, skilled craftsman
Paul E. Schaffer, 84, of Georgetown, went on to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
Paul served his country proudly in the 4th Marine Division during World War II, and served in the color guard for American Legion Post 28 for many years. He was a skilled craftsman who excelled in many trades during his life, including custom home builder, salesman and factory maintenance supervisor. He loved the Lord, and worked hard for him throughout his life. His many ministries are bearing fruit even today.
Paul was born in Allentown, Pa., Sept. 15, 1924, son of the late Charles W. Schaffer, and Verna Miller Schaffer. He was brother to Margaret Schaffer Urland, the late Lloyd Schaffer, Leroy Schaffer, Charles Schaffer, the late Richard Schaffer and Eleanor Schaffer Lentz.
Paul was loved and is survived by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Virginia M. Lorah Schaffer; a son, Jeffrey P. Schaffer; and daughters Andrea Joy Brown, Gail Jane Bailey and Jan Robin Brown. Paul loved all of his grandchildren that he left behind, 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday May 16, at Watson Funeral Home Millsboro. A memorial service will be at Watson at 11 a.m., Monday, May 18. Lisa E. Havelow, department manager
Lisa E. Havelow, 44, of Dover, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Jefferson Hospital.
Lisa was born July 31, 1964, in Chestertown, Md., daughter of the late Loy and Sarah Moore Lewis. She had worked as a department manager at WalMart.
Lisa is survived by four children, Nathan Jester of Lewes, Charles Jester of Milford, Matthew Havelow and Kimberly Havelow, both of Dover; two brothers; one sister; and five grandchildren. Services were held at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. Burial followed in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Margot A. Conant, 81, of Elkton, Md., died Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of J. Warren and Dorothy Cox Albinson. She was educated in Elkton schools and was a graduate of Washington College, Chestertown, Md. She was, at various times, employed by the Cecil County Board of Education and the Cecil County Board of Realtors and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Historical Society of Cecil County, the Auxiliary of Union Hospital, Trinity Episcopal Church, Elkton, and All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Rehoboth Beach. She enjoyed socializing with her former classmates from Washington College and was also an avid bridge player.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Milford H. Sprecher, M.D., Douglas W. Connellee and D. Gilbert Conant. She is survived by her stepsister, Virginia J. Cole; stepbrother, Thomas A. Jones; children, Milford H. Sprecher Jr. and Melissa Sprecher; step-children, Sandra Gorris, Richard Connellee, Anne C. Johnson, Susan C. Orr, James E. Conant, Daniel M. Conant, John G. Conant and 15 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Elkton.

Lloyd Saunders, roofing company owner
Lloyd Saunders, 75, of Millsboro and Onancock, Va., died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Sentara Hospital in Norfolk, Va.
For more than 40 years, Lloyd worked tirelessly to build his carpet business and later his company, Lloyd Saunders Roofing. He deeply appreciated the loyalty and hard work of his employees. His passion for life, generosity, humor and kind spirit brought tremendous joy to his family and all who knew him. He spent as much time as possible on or near the water. He will be sadly missed.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 30 years, Mary V. Saunders in 2001, and brother, Daniel Saunders in 1998. He is survived by his brother, Leroy Saunders and also by his children, Cecil (and Susan) Saunders, Jimmy (and Phyllis) Saunders, Debbie (and Bob) Oakes, Rodney (and Carol) Saunders, Brian (and Gloria) Saunders, Larry Saunders; and his stepchildren, Francis Swiderski, Elaine Hyland, Matthew (and Alice) Swiderski, Karen Brittingham, Cheryl (and Dave) Palmer and Charles Sharp; as well as numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws (especially Patricia “Patsy” Thorpe who was his right hand and for keeping the laughs going), his many friends and his loyal pet, Pepe.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 15, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington.
