A 53-room, four-level, luxury hotel may open a year from now on Rehoboth Avenue.
Demolition crews have already torn down three structures to make way for the new building Oscar’s, or the former location of the Purple Parrot, Mostly Irish and a single-family home on Lake Avenue.
Owners Peggy and Bill Martin are planning a 61,000-square-foot luxury hotel with two retail stores of about 4,500 square feet that will front Rehoboth Avenue.
Neither Martin was available for comment, but Rehoboth Beach Building and Licensing Inspector David Murphy said the hotel plans include a swimming pool on the second floor.
“It’s going to have a great look on Rehoboth Avenue, especially with the retail spaces,” Murphy said.
The plans also feature a basement and underground parking; a lobby, parking area and guest registration on the ground floor; and meeting rooms in addition to the guest rooms.
The entrance to the hotel will be off Lake Avenue in the city’s commercial district, said Murphy, with the lodging façade on Rehoboth Avenue.
The upscale lodgings are expected to be constructed of split-face block or brick, said Murphy. Another treatment, an exterior insulation and finish system, may be used for the building’s facades and a roof containing tin surfaces has been proposed.
Original drawings are still being reviewed, Murphy said.
Murphy said his office is still waiting for the fire marshal’s approval and final drawings to come back.
The hotel is scheduled for completion in spring 2007.
