After a phenomenal success last fall, Matt Falcone of Aqua restaurant will be hosting “Yappy Hour” again this year at 57 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. A relatively new spin-off of the traditional Happy Hour, canine-loving customers can now bring their dogs along while they enjoy a drink.
Following the Delaware Humane Association’s Second Annual Beach Walk for Animals, Yappy Hour will be held on Aqua’s deck and beach area Saturday, April 30, from 2-5 p.m.
Although the restaurant won’t open full-time until Memorial Day, it will be open on weekends. “We’ll definitely be hosting more Yappy Hours,” Falcone said, “It’s a lot of fun, and a chance to meet other people with dogs.”
With three boxers already, Falcone says they will continue to do fundraisers for Boxer Rescue and for Delaware Humane Association. There is nothing definite scheduled yet, and they are seeking more canine-related sponsors.
At Yappy Hour, dogs from the Humane Association who are ready for adoption will be wearing bright red “Adopt Me” bandanas. DHA’s executive director Kevin Usilton was pleased to report that four dogs found new homes specifically because of last year’s Yappy Hour.
Aqua will serve the humans a variety of appetizers and snacks with a Caribbean and Cuban flair. For their canine companions, an assortment of dog bones and homemade biscuits will be provided courtesy of Critter Beach. Dogs must be on leash, and must have their vaccinations up to date to participate. A $5 cover charge for each human will raise funds for the Delaware Humane Association.
