Get bewitched at annual
Rehoboth Sea Witch Festival

Rehoboth’s award-winning Sea Witch Festival will fill the resort area with parades and blue grass and great costumes on Saturday, Oct. 29 with a rain date of Oct. 30. For the 11 a.m. parade, rolling units will begin at State Road and merge with walkers a few blocks down Rehoboth Avenue at Convention Hall.

The parade route goes to the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand and ends at Village by the Sea. All parade participants are encouraged to pick up a raffle ticket at Village by the Sea Shops for a prize drawing. Trophies are awarded to the judge’s favorites and all parade participants receive a Sea Witch Still Making Waves 2005 ribbon. The parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. The costume parade is sponsored by Tanger Outlet Centers.

A full day of foot-stompin’ entertainment ensues with a cash prize contest and the audience becomes the recipient of some of the best pickin’ possible. The Fiddler’s Festival, also a part of Sea Witch has been billed as top string event and lauded as the best on the coast.

There is both an adult and children’s competition for best fiddle, bluegrass and banjo playing. The Fiddler’s Festival is held from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Rehoboth bandstand.

All age categories will get a chance to toss their numbered broom off the boardwalk, with the longest distance winning. Participants can’t wait to walk away with a ribbon, proclaiming them as an official “Sea Witch Tosser”. The Broom Tossing Contest will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.

The Big Dogs Best Costumed Pet Contest goes way beyond dogs and cats into the unknown. Former critters have included ducks with an attitude, miniature horse princesses, spider dogs, surfer dogs and even a black goat named Little Devil, dressed in a red cape and sporting red painted horns.

Prizes are awarded to judge’s favorites. All participants receive a Big Dogs of Sea Witch ribbon. Lineup is at the Boardwalk and Stuart Kingston Gallery, located at Grenoble Place. Pets and owners parade down the Boardwalk, letting the crowds get an eyeful.

Judge’s favorites are called onto the stage where prizes and ribbons are awarded. The Big Dogs Best Costume Pet Contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 with lineup beginning at noon at Stuart Kingston (north end of the Boardwalk). Judging will begin at 12:15 p.m. Promptly at 1 p.m. the monsters wag their way down the Boardwalk.

Following the parade, prizes are presented at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. The contest is sponsored by Big Dog Sportswear.

Sit back and watch the Maryland Rough Riders as they provide horse performances and drills on the beach. These cowboys become beach boys for the day parading and exhibiting their dexterity on horseback, dressed in cowboy attire. Don’t miss the only east coast horse performance on the beach.

The horse parade is performed, just off the Boardwalk, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Those who believe they have both the hunting skill and the stamina needed, must first check in with the official clue keeper and pick up a 100-clue site location list. The clues run in no particular order, so hunters take their best guess prior to a final cut-off time. The earliest correct guess wins a cash prize.
