Fifer Orchards’ Country Store in Wyoming is open for its 88th year of providing the area with fresh fruits and vegetables plus a wide variety of other farm-related products.
Fifer Orchards will soon open a new location at the beach. By Memorial Day, shoppers can look for Fifer’s Local ~ Fresh Market on Route 1 in Dewey Beach.
The market will include asparagus, strawberries (along with a pick-your-own strawberry patch), tomatoes, potatoes, onions, squash, cucumbers, mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, beets, hydroponic lettuce, lemons and limes. Coming soon will be fresh peas, blueberries, raspberries, peaches and sweet corn.
The Country Store has completed some renovations and now includes a newly expanded deck and ice cream window. New bakery items have also been added including pies, cookies, bread, muffins, scones, apple cider doughnuts and more.
Grandma’s Pantry features jams, jellies, dressings, salsas, mixes, syrups, local honey, teas, mixes for cakes, crisps, dips and soups, as well as a wide variety of snack items like nuts, kettle corn, candy and trail mixes. Also available are innovative kitchen gadgets and ideas to add to a customized gift basket which is one of Fifer Orchards’ signature offerings.
Fifer Orchards will host its first Strawberry Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 19, featuring live music from Chapel Street Junction from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a Strawberry Recipe Contest between 10 and 11 a.m. and winners will be announced at 12 noon. Entry information is at www.fiferorchards.com. There will also be strawberry shortcake, chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry sundaes, and special prices for pick-your-own strawberries. Other activities include fruit and veggie “characters,” face painting and pony rides. Fifer Orchards is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
