Lavinia Street Gallery to host
Black & White Photographic Exhibition

The 205 Lavinia Street Gallery in Milton presents a Black & White Photographic Exhibition on the cutting edge of a dying art form. The opening, including live music, is set for 8 to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 26, and the exhibition will run through May 26.

Works include dogs and their owners, disappearing architecture in Delaware and vivid images of journeys through Asia. There will be continuous video depicting the procedures from shooting the photos through the development process.

The trio Stuart Annand, Shauna Thompson and Jeanie Greenhaugh will exhibit black and white photographs printed the old-fashioned way in a wet darkroom. The days of traditional photography may be numbered but this hasn’t stopped this trio from photographing portraits of dogs and their masters, striking architectural views and documentary images.

This adventure began a year ago when Greenhaugh invited Annand and Thompson into her darkroom.

Annand, of Lincoln, first became interested in photography when he discovered his father’s photography equipment on the top pantry shelf. He enjoyed good results but has greatly benefited from Greenhaugh’s tutelage.

Thompson, a Sussex County native, has witnessed many changes in the area over her lifetime. She decided that she would like to memorialize places and scenes that are disappearing from the Sussex landscape. She felt that black and white photography was an appropriate medium to capture the essence of the passing era.

Thanks to Greenhaugh’s willingness to teach her photography and darkroom technique, she was able to put on paper images that, until now, were only in her head.

Greenhaugh is the director and owner of 205 Lavinia Street, an art gallery and health and development center. She has been interested in photography most of her life. The photos she has chosen will be from her journeys in Asia including Thailand, Laos, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and Vietnam. Greenhaugh said she finds words can’t describe the gratification of watching the prints of her students’ work become reality.

At the opening reception, guests will hear Chuck Adams on guitar, Sally Rickards on strings and flute, Spencer Adams on drums and Jesse Friend on keyboard. Attendees are invited to bring their own instrument and join in the art and musical evening.
