Local primary-care physicians form Beacon Medical Group

Four well-known local primary-care physicians recently joined together to form Beacon Medical Group, a new two-office family-care and pediatric practice that will soon serve the Cape Region. New partners Dr. Jeffrey Hawtof and Dr. Matthew J. Tulloch, formerly of Long Neck Family Practice, and pediatricians Dr. Nancy Gideon and Dr. Judith Gorra hope their partnership will allow them to serve the increasing needs of their patients.

While Beacon Family Practice currently operates on Long Neck Road, Hawtof and Tulloch plan to see patients in August at their new facility in Oak Orchard, which is currently under construction.

The recent expansion will alleviate space concerns in their office with abutting Beebe Medical Center units and will serve as an impetus to create a more comprehensive and modernized healthcare system, said Hawtof.

Nurse practitioner Carrie Wilson has been added to the staff and will see patients at the center.

Beacon Pediatrics is scheduled to open Wednesday, June 11, in the Medical Arts Building at the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24. The new facility will center on newborn to adolescent care and will feature the expertise of Gideon and Gorra, who have more than 15 years’ combined experience in the field.

By adding three healthcare professionals, Hawtof and Tulloch hope Beacon Medical Group will satisfy the health needs of the entire family.

“We are thrilled to have two outstanding, extremely well-trained pediatricians join our practice,” said Hawtof. “The addition of a nurse practitioner is also a tremendous boost, and with her on board, we will now be able to see new patients within a week.”

The two offices will offer care for chronic medical conditions and urgent problems. Immunizations, medical tests and small operations accompany a variety of other in-house procedures that will soon be available at both locations.

After the offices open, Hawtof, Gideon and Gorra will continue to see their patients at Beebe Medical Center. Tulloch also plans to continue to see his patients at Renaissance Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The doctors hope the larger facilities will not only allow them to see more patients at a time but will also give them a chance to try one of the newest technologies offered in healthcare. While their office on Long Neck Road has held a paperless electronic medical record system that has vastly decreased patient waiting time, their new offices will have a fully automated system that will make visits even more convenient and efficient.

The new system will allow patients to make appointments, ask questions of their physicians and fill out forms before going to the doctor.

Prescriptions and blood work results will also be available to patients on their secure and private website, said Hawtof.

Hawtof said a virtual office visit is also available online for current patients, through a special interactive online program created by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The program allows clients to interact with the doctors at Beacon Medical Group through a series of questions designed to pinpoint health concerns. It also gives patients the capability of uploading referrals for lab tests and will suggest if the patients need a doctor visit. Hawtof said that today more and more patients are using the new resources, because they find it simple and extremely effective. It is especially good for those traveling and who have access to a computer, and the system can save people from taking off work to visit the doctor.

With new technology adding to the impressive experience and expertise of the Beacon Medical Group’s professionals, the doctors hope patients will benefit and become more in touch with their health.

Beacon Family Practice is currently under construction and will be located at 26744 John J. Williams Hwy, Suite 3, in the Oak Orchard Professional Suites Complex. The office will have the same number as the Long Neck office: 947-9767.

Beacon Pediatrics is temporarily located in the Medical Arts Building on the Beebe Health Campus on Route 24, Suite 306. The office will move downstairs to Suite 212 later this summer. It can be contacted at 302-645-8212.
