There’s a reason why Rehoboth Beach has been called the Restaurant Capital of Delaware - and diners can experience the excitement, quality and diversity themselves during downtown Rehoboth’s Restaurant Week set for Sunday, May 4 through Saturday, May 10.
The list of participants includes Adriatico, Abstractions Sushi Bar & Restaurant, Back Porch, Catchers, Claws, Cloud 9, The Cultured Pearl, Dish!, Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, Dos Locos, Eden, Espuma, Jake’s, Mariachi, The Pig & Fish Restaurant Co., Planet X, Porcini House, Purple Parrot Grill, Shag, Stoney Lonen Restaurant & Pub, Summerhouse and Victoria’s Restaurant.
From new American cuisine and seafood to Mediterranean recipes and sushi, there’s something for everyone. The restaurants of downtown Rehoboth Beach have a roster of talented chefs who are planning for this annual event.
Chef/restaurant owner Jay Caputo has two restaurants to direct during Restaurant Week. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Caputo is the driving force behind Espuma and the brand-new Porcini House. Caputo came to Rehoboth Beach in 2004, an alumnus of the executive chef position at Steven Starr’s Tangerine in Philadelphia.
Cloud 9 features Executive Chef Chris Teal, a California Culinary Institute graduate who was sous chef under well-known San Francisco Chef Michael Mina before becoming executive chef at several fine restaurants. He joined Cloud 9 in 2006.
Over at Purple Parrot, Brent (Franklin) Warrington learned culinary arts on the job. Warrington has received top honors for Purple Parrot in several local publications - and was the winner, for two consecutive years, in the Rehoboth Beach Main Street Gumbo Cook-off.
The top job at Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats is in the hands of Matthew K. Silverman, kitchen guru and self-proclaimed beer chef. Prior to Dogfish, Silverman held positions in Bellefonte and State College, Pa. He includes “pastry chef” among his talents.
Dozens of other talented chefs are anchoring busy kitchens in downtown Rehoboth.
Rehoboth Beach Main Street Inc. is sponsoring this event featuring 22 of Rehoboth’s finest restaurants serving up three-course prix-fixe dinners, with many of them offering optional wine pairings. Restaurants will offer $30 or $20 prix-fixe menus. For details, see www.downtownrehoboth.com
