For many people in the Cape Region, the need for specialized medical supplies has often meant a long drive to Dover or Salisbury, Md. A new business in the Cape Region will solve that problem for many.
CPS Medical Equipment and Supply opened May 21 in Rehoboth Mall. The store offers a more convenient central location and access to some of the most popular brands of wheelchairs, walkers and other health products.
The store is the combined effort of Billy Quirk, Andy Herrick and Bob Moyer - three longtime friends who each has a different area of expertise. Quirk, a construction expert and owner of House Doctors, has spent the last four years renovating rooms in private homes and medical establishments to make them more accessible for the impaired. Herrick, a former hospital administrator in Philadelphia and New Jersey has spent much of his life in the medical field, and in 1992 he started his first medical supply company. Moyer, a longtime business partner of Herrick, holds more than 37 years’ experience in the retail and medical supply field.
When added together, the combined expertise of the three men lends perfectly to helping customers with every kind of need, said Quirk. The owners’ experience, accompanied by the large spectrum of products located in the store, makes the establishment like no other in the area, he added.
Unlike many medical equipment suppliers, CPS offers a variety of rental programs for large products like beds, wheelchairs and scooters. The store offers repair and service of all of its items, as well as local delivery and removal of rented items.
CPS holds a contractor’s license and is certified to install its products at locations in residential and commercial establishments. This includes the construction of wheelchair ramps, widening doorways and restroom renovations to suit the needs of the elderly.
“What we are trying to make with this store is a place where people can find all of their medical equipment needs and products with the highest level of quality,” said Quirk. “Our equipment and chairs are built to last. We back that with our service programs.”
With products, service and installation offered at one location by a customer-friendly, local company, customers are already talking about the convenience and reliability of CPS, said Herrick.
“There are many problems faced by the elderly community today,” said Herrick. “We try to address many of the medical issues and make happy, satisfied customers.”
CPS Medical Equipment and Supply is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment. It is located at 18909 Rehoboth Mall Boulevard, Suite 3.
