The Lewes Historical Society will feature more than 85 master craftspeople at its juried Craft Fair, set for Saturday, July 12, at the Lewes Historical Society Complex, Third and Shipcarpenter streets in Lewes.
More than 85 master craftspeople will display stained glass, wearable art, pottery, dolls and a wide range of original crafts and media. The first of two craft fairs held at the complex, the show attracts many repeat artists as well as several first time exhibitors.
Craft Fair chairwoman Christine Besche said the show continues to attract professional and talented artisans from the Mid-Atlantic region. “We are pleased that many artisans are returning to Lewes and that several new craftspeople will also be participating in the show for the first time,” she said. She also noted that a number of Delaware by Hand artists are coming back to the show. Delaware by Hand is an initiative to foster the creation of a formalized, resident-based crafts industry by linking and leveraging the power of craft artists already living and working in Delaware. Besche said that among these artisans are Werner Stack, porcelain, Milton; Gary Crowl, wood collage, Rehoboth; Betsy Von Dreele, fiber art, Harbeson; Pat Staby, decorative pillows, Lewes; Anna Biggs, jewelry, Greenville; and Justin Cavagnaro, blown glass, Dagsboro.
Exhibits include Erika Rubel’s functional wall art, Dana Simson’s handbuilt ceramics and mixed media, colorful hand-carved wooden bowls by Frederick Williamson as well as many other popular artisans.
The July show features live music from Bitter Creek bluegrass band, a selection of gourmet foods by Kupchick’s Korner and refreshing ice cream and Italian ices by Vitales.
The show is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3 and all proceeds benefit the Lewes Historical Society.
