El Centro Cultural is pleased to invite the public to attend Festival Hispano. This year, the community event will be held from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 ,in Millsboro. The event is free for the whole family and conveniently located at the Little League Complex on State Street in Millsboro.
El Centro Cultural began the event 14 years ago to highlight local talent and expose area residents to cultural and traditional music from Latin America. Festival Hispano is a wonderful day for native Delawareans and visiting tourists to experience music, dancing and food. Festival Hispano is a fabulous cultural celebration for the many Hispanic immigrants who have come from many different countries to live and work in Sussex County.
This year’s program is packed with local favorites and some out-of-town musical groups.
The local groups include a marimba band, a mariachi band, traditional Mexican dances, music from the Andes and a Puerto Rican dance group. El Centro Cultural is always excited to find new local groups and promote these groups at Festival Hispano and local community events throughout the year.
Festival Hispano will also host two regional musical groups this year. The featured group this year is Urama Shikan. Members of the group are originally from Ecuador and specialize in traditional music and folkloric dances from the Andes region of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and northern Chile.
The music, dances and clothes worn during the performance proudly display the diversity of various regions of the Andes in South America.
