Lower Delaware Autism Foundation raffling Toyota Camry

For the first time a car has been fully donated to the Lower Delaware Autism Foundation. The Central Atlantic Toyota Division has donated a 2008 Camry LE to the Lower Delaware Autism Foundation to help the foundation raise funds. The foundation will raffle the car off later this year with all of the proceeds being earmarked for adult services. The chances of winning are 1 in 1,000. The winner will be responsible for any and all taxes and tags required.

By pledging $100 to the Lower Delaware Autism Foundation (LDAF) individuals will receive the chance to win the No. 1-selling car in America. The drawing for the Camry will be held at LDAF’s second annual Blue Jean Ball and Fall Art Show on Friday, Oct. 24, and the winner need not be present to win. The winner will choose from available Camrys on the lot at Hertrich’s Toyota in Milford. This opportunity was facilitated by Hertrich’s Toyota and Tushar Patel, general manager of the dealership and a parent of a child with autism.

LDAF has set a goal of selling 1,000 tickets in order to raise $100,000 that it will use to continue to prepare for the many children currently in high school who will soon transition out of the school system into the full-time care of their parents.

“It’s critical that these soon-to-be young adults have the same opportunities you and I have every day,” said Mary Landon Green, LDAF’s program and event coordinator. “We want to ensure that there are vocational opportunities for adults with autism right here in Sussex County. We hear stories about kids that successfully graduate, only to sit on their parents’ couch after graduation day, and this just isn’t acceptable.”

LDAF’s vision is that individuals with autism in Sussex County will have meaningful and enriching opportunities within their communities. “We hope more and more business owners will see the value in employing individuals with autism as they are punctual, efficient and task oriented. Those qualities are the foundation of a great employee,” said Green.

Raffle tickets are available at Rehoboth Car Wash, by calling LDAF’s office at 644-3410 or online at www.ldaf.com.

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
