Winners crowned in annual Miss Harbeson Pageant

The 2008 Miss Harbeson Pageant was held recently, with the theme Celebrating the All-American Girl. Special guests and entertainers included Miss Delaware 2008 Galen Giaccone, who performed a number on the flute and acted as co-emcee, interviewing contestants on stage.

Other entertainers included Nicole Prettyman, Harbeson Youth Ambassador, Young Miss Patriotic and Junior Miss 4th of July, who sang the national anthem during the opening ceremonies and performed with the contestants and prior title holders to the song, “All-American Girl.”

Also taking part in the event was Pam Prettyman, executive director of the pageant, who dressed up in Betsy Ross attire. Uncle Sam also made an appearance.

During the opening ceremonies, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited by Young Miss Harbeson, Jemini McCloskey, who later performed a gymnastics routine. Junior Miss Harbeson 2007 Rytasia Briddell performed a song and Teen Miss Harbeson Cortney Ward recited a poem, “Jesus and the Fourth of July,” and later performed on the drums.

A tribute to honor the memory of Brontia Allen, a contestant in last year’s pageant was also held. Allen passed away Jan. 18. During the tribute, Pam Prettyman presented flowers, angel plaques and teddy bears to the family. Two memorial wreaths honoring Allen were also on display. Shanee Townsend, a contestant with Allen last year, read a poem called “Missing You,” and also received a Brontia Allen angel plaque later in the program.

Contestants in the Miss Harbeson Pageant included Megan Sterling, Tori Banning, Dynasia Briddell, Ka’tasia Horsey, Shelby Sterling, Mallory Nielsen, Isabella Geren, Olyvia Leminex, Amalia Roque, Alicia Satterfield, Adrianna Roque, Sara Penny and Shanee Townsend.

In the Little Miss Division, Little Miss Harbeson was won by Megan Sterling, who also won Little Miss Harbeson Congeniality. Her special awards included prettiest eyes, prettiest hair and prettiest smile.

In the Young Miss Division, Young Miss Harbeson was won by Mallory Nielsen, whose special awards included being named the Ultimate All American Girl Patriotic Cover winner, Harbeson alumni, best dressed, most patriotic, scholastic scholar and top fundraiser.

In the Junior Miss Division, Alicia Satterfield was named Junior Miss. Satterfield also received the Harbeson Hospitality award as well as Junior Miss Harbeson All American Sweetheart, scholastic scholar and talent winner.

In the Teen Miss Division, Teen Miss Harbeson was won by Sara Penny, whose other awards included Teen Miss Greater Delaware, best dressed, best model and poise, audience choice award, overall ticket sales and scholastic scholar.
