Sussex Central was up to the challenge in the first 15 minutes of the game, pressuring Cape goalie Tori Bunting who had to make a couple of real saves to keep the game scoreless.
The Vikings then turned on the pressure washer sending 14 first-half shots at goalie Lauren Sanger who sent them all back. Cape also earned eight corners but couldn’t convert.
The second half was more of the same script until a crossing pass from Molly Desmond found the stick of Chelsea Reed who one-timed it into the net at 23:44 and a 1-0 Cape advantage.
Abby Hilligoss took a penalty shot at 20:27. It went high and hit the crossbar behind the goalie as teammates shouted “That’s all right Abby. You’ll get the next one.”
Abby actually got the next two, scoring unassisted goals at 15:42 and 11:10 as Cape won 3 to 0 extending its season record to a perfect 5-0.
Cape will host Indian River on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and play at CR on the road Thursday, Sept. 25.
Cape had 37 shots on goal as goalie Lauren Sanger was credited with 34 saves.
