For those seeking to test their luck on the roulette wheels and blackjack tables of Atlantic City, a visit to the East Coast’s largest gambling venue maybe easier to plan than ever. With the Cape May-Lewes Ferry’s Lucky Sevens casino package, customers from all over the Cape Region have found the promotion to be one of the safest bets around.
The trip, which is made possible by the conjunction of Lion Trailways and the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, departs from the Cape-May Lewes Ferry terminal in Lewes twice a week. The package includes a round-trip ferry cruise, deluxe motorcoach transportation from the Cape May terminal to Atlantic City as well as free parking.
Larry Sharp, Cape May-Lewes Ferry director of marketing, said that for the past few years, the Lucky Sevens package has been enormously popular.
The major reason, he said, is because of the sheer value the package entails. The promotion originally earned its name because it cost only $7, with a departure time of 7 a.m. Although the morning departure has now changed to 9:15 a.m. and market pressures have added a $2 surcharge to cover additional motorcoach fuel costs, crowds still form every Wednesday and Thursday morning, waiting to cash in on the great value, he said.
“We have had great success with Lucky Sevens this year and have even seen an increase in foot passengers because of the many packages we now offer,” said Sharp. “A regular round trip on the ferry is $17, but because of our partnership with Lion Trailways, a passenger can get a round-trip ticket and transportation to a deluxe Atlantic City resort, all for less than $10.”
In fact, due to the high demand that the Ferry has seen, the promotion, normally offered from mid-June to late August, has now been extended until Sept. 25.
Lion Trailways owner Nick Paglione said that with an offer in which passengers can take advantage of a relaxing cruise on the ferry, a luxury bus connection and all of the amenities of the well-known Tropicana Casino and Hotel, everyone comes out a winner.
“We’ve had a great relationship with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry for 30 years,” said Paglione. “This package is great for those in Delaware that want to visit a famous Atlantic City casino.”
The itinerary for the trip, he added, gives customers five hours in Atlantic City. The Tropicana offers round-the-clock casino gambling with slots, blackjack, craps, a large poker room and more. The resort also boasts world-class entertainment, more than 30 shops, south Jersey’s only IMAX Theatre and more than 21 restaurants. The resort is also situated in a central location, giving customers the chance to take in all of the sites of Atlantic City, while not having to worry about parking, accommodations and a potentially tiresome drive home, said Sharp.
After arriving at the casino around noon, the bus to the Cape May-Lewes terminal will depart from Atlantic City at 4:45 p.m., in time for the 6 p.m. ferry ride to Lewes. Customers can expect a full day of entertainment, said Sharp, and they will return to Lewes around 7:20 p.m.
“Once people find out how much fun they can get for $9 a person, we often see them coming back to make the trip again,” said Sharp. “They can’t wait to get back into the action.”
For Rehoboth resident Gale Brand, making the trip to Atlantic City with some of her best friends is a highlight of the summer. Lucky Sevens is such a bargain, she said, that she couldn’t resist taking advantage of the promotion. “We’re out for the day,” she said as she boarded the ferry in Lewes. “And all of us are hoping to hit the jackpot.”
