Healthy cooking demonstration highlights fitness program

Mike Pelrine of Bésemé Café in Lewes provided a healthy-cooking demonstration Sept. 4, at the Lewes Steps Out For Fitness event at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes. Pelrine prepared an original stuffed-pepper recipe. “It’s easy to do and it’s all good for you,” he said. He passed out pieces of the stuffed peppers he had prepared in advance to an appreciative crowd.

There were 44 people who signed in exercise minutes at the event. In all, they registered 37,768 minutes for a grand total going into final reporting on Sept. 18 of 189,950 minutes.
The final event of the Lewes Steps Out For Fitness 2008 program will be the Thursday, Sept. 18 bonfire and awards ceremony at the public beach in Lewes. The 6 p.m. event will include a bonfire constructed by Lewes blacksmith John Ellsworth, music by Lewes Police Department detective and DJ John Miller, free cider and cookies, rappelling and other demonstrations involving the Lewes Fire Department aerial truck, a display of Sussex County’s technical rescue truck and presentations of awards to those who participated in this year’s program. All who participated this year will receive a lapel pin recognizing their achievement.

The entire community is invited to the beach bonfire. For more information, call 645-8073.
