Artist and teacher, Walt Bartman, director of Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, Md., will give a lecture from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, on John Singer Sargent to members of the Delaware Watercolor Society at the Glade Clubhouse, Rehoboth. Bartman, a plein air painter, is noted for his use of composition, color and atmospheric light.
He also has a studio on Tilghman Island, Md., which was on the Easton Plein Air Competition tour in 2008. Bartman is listed in Art and Artist Files in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Library Collections, and is represented by the Marin-Price Galleries in Chevy Chase, Md.
Bartman continues to receive national recognition for his remarkable artwork and teaching, including a stint on CBS’s Charles Osgood show, “Sunday Morning;” personal recognition by President George W. Bush and President Clinton for teaching 10 Presidential Scholars in the Visual Arts.
Other noteworthy awards include Art Educator of the Year in Maryland (Maryland Art Association, 1991); Distinguished Teacher in the Arts (National Foundation for the Arts, 1991); Mark Mann Award for outstanding teaching in Montgomery County, Md. (1993); the Robert Rauschenburg Fellowship for work with students with special needs (the Lab School in Washington, D.C., 1994); 25 Years of Outstanding Commitment to Education (Maryland State House of Delegates, 1995); and the Millie Scott Award for outstanding art and teaching (Strathmore Hall, 1998).
The Bartman lecture will be followed by a critique for those who wish professional comments and advice on their art work. Participants may bring two paintings of any medium for the critique. Refreshments will be served. This event is free to members of the Delaware Watercolor Society and $5 per person for nonmembers.
