The Yellow Brick Road leads to the Baycenter in Dewey Beach when Family Stages brings “The Wizard of Oz” to the Delaware shore at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22. The performance will be preceded by a one-hour workshop in creative dramatics for kids ages 5-12.
Two actors, Steve Seyfried and Danielle Mausson, perform the entire show, bringing to the stage all the familiar characters. How do they do it? It’s simple. Mausson plays Dorothy and Seyfried plays everyone else. Costumes fly fast and furiously as character after character takes the stage.
This unique version of “The Wizard of Oz” has been seen often through the years at the Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre. Steve Seyfried and his wife Elise are cofounders of the theatre, which presents a 10-week season of shows every summer. Family Stages is their year-round company headquartered in suburban Philadelphia.
In addition to the performance, Seyfried will also conduct a creative dramatics workshop for children before the show beginning at 10 a.m. Young actors join in a variety of theatre games and improvs designed to develop stage skills in fun-filled ways.
Tickets to the performance of “The Wizard of Oz” are $8. The fee to participate in the workshop is $10. Children who participate in the workshop can attend the show for $5. Reservations for the show and registrations for the workshop can be made by calling 215-886-9341 or emailing duetpros@aol.com. The website for Family Stages is www.familystages.org.
Family Stages will return to the Baycenter this winter with 1 and 7 p.m. performances of “That Fabulous Franklin” on Feb. 3.
