The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce is set to splash into the New Year at the 13th annual Leo Brady Exercise Like The Eskimos.
This year’s frosty pitch in the ocean is set to take place at noon, Thursday, Jan. 1, on the beach in Bethany. “Eskimos” from all over the area and visitors alike will be freezin’ for a reason. All proceeds from this event benefit The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation which provides college scholarships to local students and grants to area organizations.
Registration information and forms can be found online at TheQuietResorts.com or call the chamber at 800-962-SURF (7873) to have a registration form mailed. Participants can also register the day of the splash. The cost is $30 for adults and $15 for students 18 and under.
“This event is a great way to start the New Year and brings a buzz of excitement to downtown Bethany,” said Deserie Lawrence, events manager for the chamber.
“We are encouraging everyone to come together and form teams to compete for the coveted Iceberg Trophies for the largest commercial and non-commercial teams. The last
few years, Team Cottage Café and Team Neptune have won these titles.
“Hopefully this year we will see some new competition to keep things interesting and raise
funds for a great cause, the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation.”
A great way to warm up for the dip is to enjoy the eighth annual Hometown Pet Show at 10:30 a.m. on the boardwalk.
Get the family together and dress up a favorite furry pet and have an opportunity to take home a trophy for the best-dressed pet, looks most like owner, best-gallon sized pet and best-pint sized pet.
All proceeds from the pet show go to the Cats Around Town Society.
Supporting sponsors are PNC Bank, WMDT-Channel 47 and the CW3, and Penguin Diner. For more information, visit www.TheQuietResorts.com or contact Lawrence at 302-539-2100, Ext. 15.
