Beebe Medical Center said space is still available at the American Lung Association’s Spacer Camp from Monday through Friday, July 6-10, at the University of Delaware’s Virden Center in Lewes.
The weeklong day camp is specifically designed to accommodate children between the ages of 7 and 11 who suffer from asthma. Beebe Medical Center is a sponsor.
The Beebe Medical Center respiratory care team raises money throughout the year to be able to give scholarships to those campers needing help meeting the registration fee. Campers can participate in a variety of typical camp activities such as kayaking, hiking, seining, swimming and educational games.
They also will receive lessons on diet, exercise and disease management under the instruction of on-site physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists through an integrated asthma education program.
There are more than 24,000 Delaware children with asthma who, from an early age, must be taught how to properly care for and control this debilitating disease to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Drop-off time is 7:30 a.m. each day, and pick-up time is 5 p.m.
