A shuffling of administrators will affect nearly all Cape Henlopen schools next year.
In a major change, Rehoboth Elementary School Principal Mike Dmiterchik joins the high school as associate principal.
Patricia Mumford will be the new principal at Rehoboth Elementary School, leaving open her position as assistant principal at H.O. Brittingham Elementary. District Superintendent George Stone said that position would be advertised.
At Beacon Middle School, Principal Tim Buckmaster moves to the district office as supervisor of human resources. He replaces Alfred Best, who is retiring. Assistant Principal Dave Frederick was named principal, and Dianne Mrazeck, assistant principal at the high school, will become assistant principal.
John Yore continues as principal at the high school. High school assistant Principal Brian Curtis will be titled associate principal for high school technology systems and programs. District Superintendent George Stone said the title change from assistant to associate carries a slight increase in salary, but final salary information for administrators was not available at press time.
Jackie Brisco remains associate principal at the Ninth Grade Campus.
Dr. Vivian Bush, a psychologist who has been assistant principal at the consortium this year, takes over as principal. Stone said there has been a push for a clinician to be in charge of that program. Principal Liz Joynes will stay at the school as assistant principal.
“I think people understand we are making changes that will be good for the district,” said Stone. He said most of the comments received so far are that the plan is well thought out and well organized. “If anyone’s going to be concerned, it will be Rehoboth, because they’ve seen a number of principals over the last years. I’ve assured the Rehoboth community they’ll have a great principal in Trish Mumford,” he said.
In the district office, Robert Fulton, now director of accountability and school improvement, will be director of secondary education.
Michael Kelley, current supervisor of curriculum and instruction, will be director of middle and elementary education. Stone said the district hs discussed those changes for some time, and said they were necessary to eliminate overlap in the responsibilities for Fulton’s and Kelley’s current positions.
Transportation director Mark Sudimak has requested leave in accordance with district policy, said Stone, and transportation responsibilities will be split between business director Oliver Gumbs and facilities supervisor Tyrone Woodyard. Edward Waples, supervisor of alternative/achievement gap programs will become supervisor of special programs and curriculum. Stone said the moves would lead to lower local expenditures for administration salaries in the coming year.
School board member Gary Wray said moving people into new positions and offering promotions is good for staff and for the district, as it offers employees and the organization new perspectives and fresh ideas.
The school board approved several building administration and district office staff changes April 23. The changes take effect July 1.
No changes were made to administration at Mariner Middle School or Milton Elementary School.
