Cancer society launches new
resource for cancer caregivers
The American Cancer Society recently launched a new area on its website for cancer caregivers. The section leverages existing cancer.org content but organizes it from a caregiver’s perspective.

Cancer caregivers will be able to quickly locate information, articles, tools and communities most relevant to them by clicking “Caregivers” under the “I need information for...” area on the cancer.org home page or by searching cancer.org.

Ongoing updates and improvements will be made to the new caregivers’ section based on insight, learning and recommendations from the Survivors and Caregivers Strategy Team and its Cancer Caregivers Workgroup.

According to a recent national survey commissioned by the American Cancer Society and conducted by Harris Interactive, 77 percent of Americans have either a family member or close friend who has been diagnosed with cancer at some time, and 35 percent have served as an unpaid cancer caregiver for an immediate family member or close friend.

With the number of cancer survivors living in the United States expected to nearly double by 2020, the burden on cancer caregivers will continue to increase.

This is one of the many first steps the American Cancer Society is taking to reach out, help and support cancer caregivers across the country.
