With the help of students and the support of their families who participated in fundraiser sales and fundraising events, the Milton Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization purchased a set of swings for the school playground.
The Endeavor Lodge of Milton contributed $350 from a raffle held in conjunction with the group.
Since Milton opened as an elementary school in 2003 - the building previously housed middle-school students - the playground did not have swings, an addition that many students wanted for their recess and outside time.
Since the swings debuted this spring, students have been lining up for a turn.
“The students really love the swings,” said Milton Principal Kevin Mumford. “They are being respectful, responsible and safe by waiting for their turn, following the rules and being patient.”
The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) received many letters of thanks from students who said they loved having swings on the playground.
The playground addition cost $10,767.78 and included the six swings, mulching and curbing. In addition to the support of those who helped raise money for the PTO through the year, the PTO thanks Milton’s chief custodian George Brown and Tyrone Woodyard of the district office, who helped with the placement of the swings.
