Children's Beach House barbecue on tap
Committee Chairwoman Mary Helms, honorary chairs Sen. Ted Kaufman and Lynne Kaufman, and other committee members are wrapping up the final planning stages for the 7th Annual Beach House Barbecue scheduled 6:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Children’s Beach House located at 1800 Bay Ave. in Lewes.

The event is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Beach House “Sandcastle Program,” a program that serves at-risk children ages 4-6 from the Cape Henlopen School District through arts, crafts and environmental education.

The children are also exposed to enrichment programs for speech, language and social development.

The fundraiser is always well attended and is known for its relaxing, casual atmosphere along with unique and exciting themes.

This year’s event will be celebrated “Under the Sea.”

Guests will enjoy the venue including music provided by radio personality Mike Butts from Cool 101.3, decorations reminiscent of a tropical paradise, a gourmet menu and tasty libations compliments of the Margarita Man, Dogfish Head Brewpub and Fordham Brewing Co.

Aside from the food and entertainment, the 7th Annual Beach House Barbecue will also feature a silent auction featuring the works of 13 local artists. Lynne McKay, Gary Crowl, Connie Miller, Faith Lord, Nick Serratore, Jean Doran, Steve Rogers, Aina Nergaard Nammack, Kim Klabe, Sherry Lee Biele, Tara Funk Grim, Damon Pla and Abraxas have provided customized Shaker tables that will be auctioned the evening of the event.

These tiny treasures can be seen at several locations in Rehoboth and Lewes; for a complete list of locations, visit cbhinc.org.
