Students who attended classes this summer at the Cool Spring Community Civic Center experienced a combination of learning – reading, writing and arithmetic – and fun with fieldtrips to the Harriet Tubman Museum and Historic Trail in Cambridge, Md.; Delaware State Fair; and The Movies at Midway.
Program instructor Stephanie Collick, a Rehoboth Elementary School teacher, said the program included acrylic painting, collage and clay work, taught by Rehoboth Art League instructor Terry Machon.
Two students, Tiffany Smith and Chamyra Upshur, each received $25 outstanding citizenship awards. The girls used the money to enjoy unlimited amusement rides at the state fair.
Collick said the youngest student was a 6-year-old who just completed kindergarten, and the oldest students were 14.
Most program participants live in the Cool Spring community and are students at Milton Elementary School or Mariner Middle School.
First State Community Action Agency funded the program, which ran throughout July.
