High school graduates and other adults looking to improve their career outlook can take advantage of training programs in order to start a career. High-demand jobs in many trade areas and various medical fields require training. The Sussex Tech Adult Division has developed quality programs to prepare students for successful careers.
A free training course to learn about weatherization, solar power and wind power begins in September. This daytime program will teach the skills for general installation and “green” building principles. Many jobs are expected to be available soon throughout the area. Applications for admission are now being accepted.
Apprenticeship programs in eight different trades will be offered in the evenings. Students can learn the theory of the trade while gaining valuable hands-on experience. Areas covered include electrical; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; plumbing; auto mechanics; marine mechanics; welding; industrial mechanics; and early care and education.
Training for careers in the health professions continues to provide students with the skills to enter this high-demand area. Nursing assistant graduates become employed at competitive salaries with benefits in many cases. There are limited tuition-assisted enrollments in this program. Other training programs include medical assisting, pharmacy technician, a new rehabilitation therapy aide program and medical office (billing and coding, clerical).
Most courses combine classwork and workplace experience. Sussex Tech has received approval of many courses by two national organizations. National certification exams are administered through the National Healthcareer Association or the National Center for Competency Testing.
A new clerical service specialist program is available with free tuition for qualified applicants.
Individuals interested in training to help begin a career should contact the Sussex Tech Adult Division at 302-856-9035 and ask to speak with a program coordinator.
The tuition assistance is provided through program approval by the Delaware Workforce Investment Board. Sussex Tech Adult Division programs are equal opportunity programs.
The Sussex Tech Adult Division offers a free payment plan for most programs.
