The tradition of charitable giving to the Sussex County community is stronger than ever as the Rehoboth Christmas Shop, presented by the Episcopal Church Women of All Saints’ Church in Rehoboth Beach and St. George’s Chapel in Harbeson, reaches its 47th year.
In this current climate of economic uncertainty, the Episcopal Church Women’s mission remains steadfast: to give to local organizations in need of financial support to maintain the continuity of their crucial ministries.
The Rehoboth Christmas Shop will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Daily admission is $1 with children 12 and under admitted free. A gala preview party opens the shop to the public from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, and offers patrons a chance to shop, socialize and enjoy complimentary food and drinks. Cost for the party is $25 at the door and includes daily admission.
Last year, 23 organizations were chosen by the Episcopal Church Women as beneficiaries of over $15,000 in fund disbursements. The groups that are supported serve a broad spectrum of the community.
Those served include children and youth, veterans, seafarers, seniors, the working poor, the hungry and the homeless, people with special needs, families in crisis, and former inmates transitioning to productive lives.
In addition to the shop funding, many parishioners are involved in the day-to-day operations of the various service organizations as volunteers and as board members.
Some of the beneficiaries include Bear Hugs for Babies, providing many necessities for newborn babies; West Side New Beginnings, an after-school and summer camp mentoring program for West Rehoboth youth; Jusst Sooup, a ministry offering food and fellowship to the hungry; Crisis House in Georgetown, providing temporary shelter and encouragement; and the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, supplying groceries to an expanding population of those in need.
Co-chairs Laura Dotterer, Priscilla Smith and Carol Wells have organized 19 shops under one roof including new vendors from out of town, many returning favorites, a parish booth of handmade crafts, an upscale white elephant booth, an old-fashioned bake table and the popular Christmas Café open daily for lunch.
Get a head start on Christmas shopping and contribute to many good causes.
