The public had its first official chance to tour the new Cape Henlopen High School during a grand opening and 40th anniversary homecoming weekend celebration Sunday, Oct. 25. The district plans a formal dedication of the school when all work is completed later this year.
Prior to tours of the building, board members and administrators thanked those responsible for the project – especially the residents of the district.
“You have paved the way for excellence. The heart of the community is big, and we are truly grateful,” said Principal John Yore. “We are opening our doors to say thank you,” said Superintendent George Stone. “To say farewell to the past and welcome to the future.”
Officials also opened a time capsule placed in the old high school during a dedication ceremony in 1976. That school has been demolished; the space where it stood will be used as a parking lot.
