National Physical Therapy Month, sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association, is a nationwide observance held each October. This year’s theme is Move Forward: Physical Therapy Brings Motion to Life.
“Freedom of motion is vital to our lives,” said American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) President R. Scott Ward, PT, Ph.D. “Motion is anti-aging and something we tend to take for granted until we lose it. Physical therapists are experts in the way the body moves, so we can help improve people’s quality of life by helping them move freely so they can do the things they want to do without pain and discomfort.”
When APTA conducted consumer research to learn about attitudes and perceptions related to physical therapists, consumers made it clear they were more likely to choose a physical therapist if they knew he or she could significantly improve mobility to perform daily activities and, in many cases, provide an alternative to painful and expensive surgery as well as manage or eliminate pain without medication.
Physical therapists are highly educated, licensed healthcare professionals who can help patients reduce pain and improve or restore mobility.
In celebration of National Physical Therapy Month, which is celebrated in October, Old Towne Physical Therapy is collecting the following items to donate to Casa San Francisco in Milton: toiletries, twin sheets, blankets, clothing for men and women, and shoes.
Items can be dropped off at Old Towne Physical Therapy, 34434 King Street Row, Suite 1, in Lewes during normal business hours. A celebration is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, that will include light refreshments and general education on the benefits of physical therapy. There will be a door prize and drawing for physical therapy-related merchandise and a chance to win a one-hour massage by a certified massage therapist.
