Bethany Blues, Starboard
host Tappan fundraiser
Spirits were high as Cape Henlopen High School friends of senior Brian Tappan, Bethany Blues, The Starboard and an anonymous donor combined forces Saturday, Nov. 9, to raise $4,700 to assist Tappan and his family.

A top senior varsity lacrosse player and honor student who was employed at Bethany Blues, Brian sustained severe, partially paralyzing spinal cord injuries in an ATV accident during August while vacationing in Maine.

Selling Bethany Blues’ classic pulled pork BBQ sliders by the trays-full, volunteers also hosted a silent auction and solicited donations. The funds will be used to help defray out-of-pocket first-year care expenses, estimated by The National Spinal Cord Injury Association and The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation to run between $125,000 and $225,000.

The next Brian Tappan fundraiser is slated 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, at J.D. Shuckers on Route 24 near Angola. The $10 admission includes live music by Eddie Sherman and Friends and light appetizers. There will be a silent auction and $30 will purchase a raffle ticket for a trip to Aruba, with the drawing to take place that night.
