Locks of Love Hair Raising event Nov. 17
Hobos Restaurant and Bar in Rehoboth and The Med Spa in Lewes will participate in the Locks of Love Hair Raising event begun by 9-year-old Holly Garland Williams.

The event will begin at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Hobos, 56 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Participants must be willing to donate at least 10 inches of clean, unprocessed hair to make hairpieces for young people with illnesses that rob them of their hair.

Participants will receive dinner for two at Hobos, a free style and cut, courtesy of The Med Spa and gift certificates donated by several local businesses.

The outside patio at Hobos will be set up as a salon for the participating stylists from The Med Spa to give complimentary cuts and styles. Afterward, dinner will be served in the main dining room, compliments of Hobos.

Holly is a fourth-grader at the Selbyville School of the Arts. She has never had her hair cut; it is currently longer than 25 inches.

Holly wrote a poem about why she wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love:

“Of hair, I have plenty to spare.
Others have none and receive only stares.
Some have locks and some hair flows,
Some are dyed or tied back into bows,
Mine flows down past my waist to the floor
After I donate I won’t have that much anymore.”
