Miss Delaware organization
seeks pageant contestants
The Miss Delaware Organization, an affiliate of the Miss America Organization, is currently seeking contestants for the Miss Delaware 2010 Scholarship Pageant.

To be eligible to compete in the 2010 Miss Delaware Pageant, a young woman must: be between the ages of 17 (and a high school senior) and 24; hold United States citizenship; have never been married; and meet residency requirements for the state of Delaware, or be a full-time student in a Delaware college or university, or have full-time employment within the state of Delaware. Contestants are also required to compete in an official local preliminary. The winners of each local title will then compete for the title of Miss Delaware 2010 in the pageant being held June 10, 11 and 12 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, Dover.

The winner will be crowned by Miss Delaware 2009 Heather Lehman and will represent Delaware at the 2011 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.

Information on upcoming official local pageants being held throughout the state is available on the Miss Delaware website, MissDE.org, by clicking onto the link “Become A Contestant,” and then “2010 Locals.” The areas of competition include: private interview with the judges, 25 percent; talent presentation, 35 percent; evening wear, 20 percent; lifestyle and fitness in swimwear, 15 percent; and on-stage question, 5 percent. Each contestant is also required to become involved with and be an advocate for a community service issue.

The community service platform is a key element of the interview process, allowing the contestant the opportunity to promote her platform issue.

Those interested in becoming a Miss Delaware contestant should visit MissDE.org, contact Dulcena Kemmerlin at Kemmer32@hotmail.com, or call 302-393-1483.
