Foundation’s Winterjam set for Feb. 5
Winterjam, the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Friday, Feb. 5, is bound to be fun with businesses like Artistic Design Day Spa and Salon donating gifts for the event. With various local bands, dancing, raffles, a silent auction, a 50/50, food and drink, what better way to fight the winter blues!

Local businesses that have donated in the past are coming out again this year in support of the Cape Henlopen School District teachers and students. The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation (CHEF) uses the money from its various fundraisers to award teacher mini-grants in October and February for special classroom initiatives. CHEF supports and grants a yearly $1,000 Performing Arts Scholarship to a graduating Cape senior seeking a career in music, dance or theatre performance. CHEF is matching funds of a recent donation to the Homeless/At-Risk Program and building the general endowment for future needs. CHEF also manages and distributes the Maureen Schab Education Scholarship, a renewable award to a Cape graduate intending to pursue teaching.

CHEF invites the public as well as all district alumni to Winterjam from 7 to 11 p.m., Feb. 5, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Advance tickets are $10 each and are on sale at the Cape District Office and all the school offices. Tickets sold at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center will be $15 each. The newly-formed Cape Henlopen High School Alumni Association will have an information table as well as a sign-up sheet for those who want to receive information about coming alumni events and Cape Henlopen School District news. All classes are welcome.

It’s gratifying to see so many interested in helping the Cape teachers and students,” said CHEF President Rick Grier-Reynolds. Businesses who are giving for the Winterjam event are as follows: Ancient Art Tatoo, Artistic Day Spa and Salon, Beach Jetty, Below Book Auto and Service, CAMP Rehoboth, Cape Gazette, Clear Space Productions, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Fisherman’s Wharf, Flowers by Mayumi, Food Lion of Milton, Irish Eyes of Milton, the Miltonian, Kid’s Cottage, Nassau Valley Vineyards, Pat Staby Designs, Shorebreak, Shore Electric, Surf Bagel, Benjamin Moore Resort Paint & Decorating, RE/MAX Realty Group, Rehoboth Beach Yoga Center, the Vision Centre Optical.
